the reason is because northern were in power for many years.  fashola can change it if he want, but the airport is own by the federal govt. which is one of the last properties of the federal govt in lagos.  the federal govt have sold 90% of its properties.

but the federal still own airport too in other places. many yorubas believe they should change the lagos airport from Murtala airport to Obafemi Awolowo airport.

fashola needs to build an airport, to get revenue. so that lagos can make money.

Lagos is now a state, it is no more FCT or capital of Nigeria. If that is the case i don't see why lagos govt should not push for the change of the names of this people that have not contributed anything to progress of lagos or southwest. More vexing is why a whole Chief Akintola does not even get recognition in lagos, a man who is renowned southwest leader. Sometimes i think obj is mad with syphillis, why is lagos airport not Akintola International Airport, AIA

Stop exposing your ignorance. Akintola was premier of Western Region. Lagos was not part of western region but Federal Capital then. Ibadan was teh capital and seat of Western government. Lagos structures are not necessarily named after regional leaders, but first deserving are national leaders(Zik, Tafawa Balewa, later Murtala, Obj, IBB, and other Heads of state), then regional leaders(Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, Michael Okpara).

So, Tafawa Balewa/Zik deserve an immortalization in Lagos before Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello, because Lagos was a Federal asset.
Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo have equal right to having structure named after them in Lagos, because Lagos was neither part of Western region nor Northern Region, but was the Federal seat, just as Abuja is independent and not annexed to any state today.
