Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Edinson Cavani has given the number 7 shirt to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner returned to Old Trafford on Friday after informing Juventus that he wanted to leave the club.

United officially announced that Ronaldo would be returning to Old Trafford 12 years after he left the club in a then record move to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo is nicknamed CR7 and has won the No.7 shirt during his first spell at Old Trafford and Real Madrid.

However, the shirt is being used by veteran forward, Cavani. .

Now Ferdinand, who was one of the Man United die-hards that spoke to Ronaldo to convince him to snub City, has hailed Cavani for giving up the hallowed jersey.

But he further pointed out that Ronaldo might not be able to use the shirt because of Premier League rules as it has been registered for Cavani.

“Just to think Cavani could be the back-up for Ronaldo, it’s unbelievable,” said Ferdinand on his FIVE YouTube show.

“Cavani, I have to say, what a man! He saw who was coming to town and gave up the No.7 shirt.

“At the end of the day, you know what the problem might be is that the shirts have been registered, maybe. And that might be an issue. So he might not be able to be No.7 so we’ll see.”

No other big club was available and he can't go to Asia or USA just yet.

United would always come to his aid, the only club he can call home which Madrid won't do.
