Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami says Nigeria is ensuring that 5G technology is not exploited after it goes into effect.

Pantami spoke when he received the Security and Emergency Managememt Award (SAEMA) for his implementation of policies against cyber attacks and related crimes.

Executive Secretary, Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), Air Commmodore Yusuf Anas Retired commended the minister for facilitating projects protecting internet users and countering criminals’ activities.




The CCC boss noted that establishment of the Computer Emergency Response and Readiness Team (CERRT) had increased Nigeria’s cybersecurity capacity.

The CERRT, domiciled at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), monitors the cyberspace to detect and mitigate potential threats and attacks.

Anas also hailed the upgrade and activation Emergency Communication Centres (ECCs) by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

In his remarks, Pantami recalled that since assuming office, security agencies have been getting the ministry’s support regarding technology.


“It is their work to leverage technology, it is not our duty to say this is what to achieve. What they require, we have provided 100 per cent and we will continue to do that”, he said.

On 5G technology deployment, the minister explained that the government started the process in 2020 but was confronted with the COVID-19 conspiracy theory.

Pantami cited the declaration by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) that 5G and coronavirus were noted related.

Lol. Several responses and not many about 5G. Most responses have been about Pantami's status as a fundamentalist bigot and backer of terrorism and radicalism.

We warned Buhari, when he failed to sack Pantami, but he would not listen. Pantami has lost credibility and any employer who retains him will lose credibility similarly. Yet Buhari does not care and many are now even openly accusing him of having an 'agenda' today because of his glaringly partisan behaviour.

That is what is happening today and the reason Buhari's Government, in the eyes of the world, is viewed as one sympathetic to ethno-religious terrorism and Islamic religious fundamentalism in a multi-ethnic and multi-faith nation.

The sack os Pantami should have been immediate for any serious and fair-minded Government respectful of all its citizens .

Now Nigeria has an ICT Minister openly and correctly mocked as a terrorist with many having no interest in his message or work. So sad.

Buhari has failed and divided Nigerians so much, the mission will be so hard for future leaders to make us "one Nigeria" again.

Goodluck to him. Power is transient and no man of flesh and blood can live forever. It will all end in shame and disgrace for Buhari and men like Pantami, Malami etal in my opinion.

It is sad intelligent posters and Nigerians cannot even talk of 5G yet we are only focused on the odious personality of our ICT Minister. Would it not have been far easier, if Buhari is a President to all Nigerians, to simply sack and replace Pantami? If that had happened would this thread have this current 'flavour'?
