Majority of catfish farmers are leaving the business in their droves, even those with the required experience. Cost of feeds are on the rise everyday. Both Federal and state governments are not adequately supporting catfish farmers. For catfish farmers like me who produce our own feeds, the prices of the feed ingredients are on the roof. Fuel prices are too costly to maintain 24-hour aeration of ponds. After spending lots of money to breed catfish, market women would come and underprice the fishes. They literally dictate the prices of fresh catfish. But if you add value by smoking the catfish, the market women won't have power over the pricing. At SS Farms, we always advice catfish farmers to add value to their fishes by drying (smoking) them, as we do: http://www.ssfarms.ng/products/catfish/dried-catfish/ You can contact SS Farms to learn how to remain in catfish farming business, against all odds: SS Farms Address: Diamond Estate, NEPA Phase 1, Ijagemo, Near Ijegun, Ojo LGA, Lagos, Nigeria. mroluway:Hey there! So, check it out—I've got this empty plot of land and I'm thinking of starting a car fish farm. Problem is, I have zero experience with it. I'm considering getting the necessary facilities and hiring an experienced worker to run the show. The only thing is, I live abroad, but luckily I have close family who can keep an eye on things. What do you think? Any advice or suggestions? 🚗🐠🏞️ |
