Fraudster arraigned in court

For obtaining N151, 000 from three persons under false pretext, a middle-aged man, Adekunle Maruf, was arraigned at an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The charge sheet accused Maruf of obtained the sum from three persons, who included Kikelomo Babatunde, Fatai Oyebode, and A. Alimi.

According to the charge sheet, the suspect presented a fake N500, 000 cheque to the victims, saying that the sum was the amount he was to collect for a contract he executed.

He said he needed the money he collected from the victims to kick-start the contract, which was awarded to him by a construction company.

The charge sheet stated that Oyebode parted with N85, 000 while Babatunde parted with N34, 000 and Alimi gave N32, 000 to the suspect.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Atiku Mutiu, said investigation by the police revealed that the suspect was not ready to refund the money he collected from the victims.

The magistrate, Mrs. Ayo Ajeigbe, granted the suspect bail in the sum of N50, 000 and she adjourned the case till August 13, 2007 for hearing.
