Born David Adedeji Adeleke, Davido is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, record producer and label chief. He was born in Atlanta and raised in Lagos. David is the son of popular Nigerian billionaire, Dr Adedeji Adeleke.

He was born on 21 November 1992 (which makes him 28 years old at the time of writing this post. In his earlier stage, he made his debut as a member of a music group called KB International.

Davido was enrolled to Oakwood University before relocating to Nigeria where he was studying Business Administration. His love for music started during his time in Oakwood which made him drop out to pursue his dreams.

Eventually, he dropped out of Oakwood when his grades started declining, and then he moved to London where he started working on his vocals.

Fast forward to 2011, he returned to Nigeria, put aside his music career and then went back to school when he enrolled at Babcock University where he studied music and then graduated in 2015 with a degree.

Davido's Career

Davido's career kicked off full force in 2011 when he became a popular face after releasing his hit single "Dami Duro." Though he had a big song "Back When" which featured legendary rapper Naeto C, "Dami Duro" was his break out single.

He co-produced the hit song with veteran record producer Shizzi and the video was shot and directed by Clarence Peters. Instantly, the song became one of the biggest tunes in the country, getting massive airplays and available of various music platforms.

The following year, Davido won the Headies award for the Next Rated superstar and then went on release a number of hit singles between 2013 and 2015.

In 2016, he was signed to the international label Sony Music and he also went on to create his own label DMW (Davido Music Worldwide) where he has artistes like Mayorkun, Peruzzi, Dremo and others.

October of that same year, he released the 5-track EP Son of Mercy, which was supported by the singles "Gbagbe Oshi", "How Long" and "Coolest Kid in Africa."

He released 5 singles in 2017 which included "If", and "Fall" which went on to become massive hit songs. It was reported by Pulse that "Fall" became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history.

His impact in the music industry can not be overly emphasized which made him famously referred to as 'The king of modern-day afrobeats.

Davido released his second studio album A Good Time in November 2019, supported by singles including "Blow My Mind".

He released his third studio album A Better Time, on Friday 13 November 2020. As at August 2021, Davido is the most followed African Musician by a mile and the second most followed African on the social media app Instagram.
