Enugu guber: Ensure that power rotates among the three senatorial districts – Methodist Prelate tells Gov. Ugwuanyi

The Methodist Church of Nigeria Prelate, His Eminence, Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche, has advised Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, to ensure that the governorship position continues to rotate among the three senatorial districts of the state, namely Enugu East, Enugu West and Enugu North, for peace, unity and progress to continue to flourish in the state.

The Supreme Head of the Methodist Church of Nigeria gave the advice when he led the Archbishops, Bishops, other Methodist Clergy and the laity to pray at the Enugu State Government House Chapel, on Friday.

The Methodist Prelate and others are in Enugu State for the 9th National Convention of the Church, holding at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.

In his sermon at the Chapel, Dr. Kanu Uche, who commended Gov. Ugwuanyi “for giving us a Chapel”, added: “That shows you (Ugwuanyi) have God in your mind and the Lord you love will never disappoint you; you will finish your tenure in peace and hand over to a good person like you who fears God”.

The Prelate therefore advised the governor to follow the chart that was brought up by the founding fathers of Enugu State, and ensure that the governorship position of the state rotates among Enugu East, Enugu West and Enugu North senatorial districts.

In their separate prayer points, two Archbishops and the Prelate offered prayers for the restoration of peace and security in Nigeria; prayers against the activities of bandits in the country; and prayers for the sustenance of peace, security and progress in Enugu State, respectively.

In his address after the prayers, Gov. Ugwuanyi respectfully welcomed the Prelate, the Archbishops, the Bishops and other Methodist faithful to the Enugu State Government House Chapel, expressing delight that the landmark visit and the prayers offered for the country, the government and good people of Enugu State in “the first purpose-built Enugu State Government House Chapel” were inspiring and cherished.

The governor noted that the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria had occasion to do same in the Chapel, on August 24, 2021, during the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) which held in Enugu from August 19-27.

“This spectacular show of love, care and support is motivating and spiritually enriching. I humbly enjoin you to continue to pray for peace in our lives, our administration, Enugu State and Nigeria at large.

“I laud the efforts of the Methodist Church (amongst others) in engendering moral restitution, responsible citizenship, peace, unity and national development.

“I pray that Almighty God grants you more strength and wisdom for your selfless service to humanity”, he added.

The Deputy Governor, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, members of the State Executive Council led by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, Special Advisers to the Governor, among other top government functionaries, participated in the religious event.

I don't really know why black politicians are very useless in their ways.

What stops Enugu state house of assembly from enshrining this in the Constitution of Enugu state? Why is Nigeria as a whole not making laws to back this rotation? What is really wrong with blacks.

Rotating governorship and president among regions will ensure stability in the polity and avoid unnecessary violence that may erupt in the event of an injustice. Every region has the good, the bad and the ugly. There is always a good head to lead in every region.

I love Enugu state for it's peace and may peace continue to reign supreme in Jesus name. Amen

In 21st century see how people are thinking. I have never heard this type of thing anywhere else but south east. Can't all the candidates come out to do debate and let the people make their choice? Which one is senatorial district again I don't get it. Even within state level? So what happened to doing things on merit? Instead of this primate to tell the governor that next election there must be debate see what his saying.

Truly the reason why south east is the poverty capital of southern Nigeria is because of these idiots that call themselves leaders.

Hmmm, you can see that the problem in Nigeria can't be solved by we splitting. Imagine having a rotational headache in a gubernatorial election, even if we divide by senatorial, we will still ask for more division. Abeokuta, Yewa and Ijebu will be clamouring for division in Ogun state. Same applies to others. At the end the fight should be between masses and elites, not between ethnic group. If we divide along ethnic group, the elite in the group will still overshadow the masses. We need to work on our innerself

Top 100, 90% are not doing business in Igbo land. They only come back during Christmas. The east is not generating good revenue to carry out capital projects because we have been electing stone heads like UOK the Cyber criminal, rochas be using our money to build mosque and statue instead on investing heavy in human capital development, Fix our universities to world standard so people can go to school come out and not only apply for jobs but also create jobs. Our education is too poor.

I’m not saying Gburugburu is a good governor but does that mean that the harmonious power rotation that has made politicking a bit sane in Enugu state should be jettisoned?

I respectfully suggest that what Ndi Enugu need is not rotational/zoning system of governance.
Ndi Enugu needs an experienced player to continue the good work.

Why we clamour for zoning is because our leaders are always selfish and the law makers decides to remain rubber stamps.
In an organization where things are done right, where the president/governor hails from is not the matter to be considered cos he owe the entire organization a duty to serve them irrespective of your region or religion.

But we cry for zoning here because of favouritism that comes to us when our own comes into power.

Not minding what some will start saying about the Fulani agenda, all this shoe makers (Mai polish) in the southeast went back to the north to vote for buhari in 2015 & 2019 respectively, how has that changed their lives.
A bad leader weather from YOUR East, West and South or North remains a bad leader.

Say NO to zoning.
I stand for Good Governance

You said it all and still say NO TO ZONING.

Is it not same reason you gave that you need to support zoning? Stop being blind to the country you find yourself. The reality on ground is that zoning will stabilize the polity and avoid unnecessary violence.

When we become advanced we can discard it

Each of the three zones have each produced a Governor

The next Governor can come from anywhere to kick start another round of rotation

correct one... your head the work well...
they is always a divide in any group in Nigeria...ethnic/religion/tribe/etc I have truly been that dividing this country doesn't not solve anything...one will not imag that Enugu state that the 99.9% of them are all igbos will be having such issues to contend with.... division does not solve the problem in Nigeria.... except we jettison this thing ...my people, my language my region my church member, my side etc
