Sotland: I am telling you the law, Under the law ALL Kings are employees of the state and require the consent of the governor to ascend the throne and can be removed by a governor......that is the law. You want to engage in dick measuring, chest beating and supremacy over which King is bigger than another and turn this into a tribal debate......I'm not biting!!!! there is no Kingdom on earth even in the days when mornarchies had real power that has not been deposed and banished! infact many royal dynasties ascended the throne by dethroning another, conquering another or fleeing on exile to start another kingdom elsewhere. its not a big deal!!! Nigerian Kings know there are merely symbolic and figure heads so like I said, they dont step outside their boundaries. But let a King in any of these places you mentioned out-step his power, then they will know who is boss....Except the governor is a weak man!!!! A king that tries himself against a gangster governor will end up banished and nothing will happen because the law (and real power) is on the side of the governor. Nigerian Monarchies were extinguished the day these Kingdoms fell to the British government. They have all lost their Kingdoms so whatever thrones they occupy they occupy as conquered Kiongdoms. What exists now, exist at the pleasure of the respective governments as symbolic links to tradition .....they are all largely symbolic!!!! 3 Likes |

emmadothings: What kind of King has to get permission from a governor before he becomes King, is not in control of his Kingdom and even by law needs permission before travelling outside his kingdom? in some states these Kings report to the commisioner for local and chieftancy affairs. What kind of King is that? What Kind of Kings go about he whole place visiting people in their houses/offices collecting brown envelopes? you talk of traditions? ............traditionally Kings dont leave their Kingdom!!! Thats why under the law they are ALL required to get permission from the local govt chairman before they travel outside their Kingdom. |

perambulator:bro, I can’t tell for other monarchs but I am yet to see the gangster governor that would wake up and make a pronouncement that the Oba of Benin has been dethroned. I am a full fledged Benin guy, I know what I am talking about.in theory it might be possible but practically it’s impossible.Except it has to come in the form of war were the kingdom is defeated and the Oba forcefully removed. The gangster governor that is gonna feel so over drunk with power and decides to play politics with the throne of the Oba is yet to be born. 2 Likes |

Youngjohnosas: I understand what you are saying. i am telling you the law. Debating a hypothetical is pointless until the scenario presents itself...all i can tell you is the law. The same people who are saying it cant happen were saying same about Sultan of Sokoto and Emir of kano. because it happened now you will rubbish Northern kingdoms But when I was growing up and learning about nigerian kings, these were the 1st class Kings of Nigeria. The Oba of benin is no bigger than the Sultan of Sokoto, it was almost impossible to envisage the Sultan being removed or the Emir of Kano being banished. What we pray is that Obas do not overstep so we dont find out that the King has no clothes!!! 1 Like |
