Nigeria is a land with tremendous history, culture and people; however, in this article, we will discuss the top 5 most beautiful palaces in Nigeria.

More, the country is home to some of the most diverse and interesting cultures and ethnicity; it comes as absolutely no surprise that there are various kingdoms and sub-local government bodies kept in place.

1. The Oyinoyi of Ebiraland’s Palace

The palace of the Oyinoyi of Ebiraland is considered to be the most beautiful palace in Nigeria and second in Africa. The Palace is located at Itakpe Road, Okene, Kogi.

This is the seat of power for the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, the traditional ruler of the Ebira tribe.

Furthermore, the palace is rated as one of the most beautiful palaces in West Africa. Currently the residence of the present Ohinoyi Ado Ibrahim, it serves as a political, historic, traditional and religious powerhouse for the Ebira people .
2. Sultan of Sokoto’s Palace

More so, the palace is home to the Sultan of Sokoto, the traditional and spiritual ruler of the Sokoto Caliphate who historically holds the most important Muslim position in Nigeria.

Behold! What an imposing and magnificent building; it has drawn Muslim pilgrims and tourists alike to Sokoto. Meanwhile, the palace features an extensive courtyard, a mosque and luxurious bedrooms.

3. Ooni of Ife’s Palace

Without a doubt, the Ooni of Ife’s palace is centuries older than time; it has been in existence for as far back as 500 BC and is located in the centre of a city called Enuwa in Ile-Ife.

The palace is decorated with beautiful local artwork, creative architecture and a perfect finish.

All materials used in the construction of the palace are locally sourced and built by locals. It is a landmark and historical site in Osun State.

4. Oba of Benin’s Palace

Furthermore, the palace of the Oba of Benin is a very famous palace. The palace, built by King Ewedo, is located in the heart of the ancient city of Benin.

In addition, it was rebuilt by Emperor Ewe II when the first palace was destroyed during the 1897 war with the British.
The Benin palace houses the traditional ruling house and seat of authority of Benin.

5. The Obi Of Onitsha Palace

The Obi of Onitsha palace is also called ‘Ime Obi’, it is the site for a lot of festivals and events and a major tourist attraction of the state.

Ime Obi (Palace) with the Palace Grounds, called ilo-eze (Public Grounds of the King), and the public entry into these sacred grounds known as the onu-ilo-eze, the Mouth of the place, is the epicentre of the domain of the Obi of Onitsha.
