France at the weekend threw its weight behind Nigeria’s quest for the African seat in the proposed enlarged Permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.

French President Nicholas Sarkozy said his country is committed to rallying international support for Nigeria.

Sarkozy spoke during a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the sideline of the inauguration of Cote D’Ivoire President Alasane Ouatara, at the Yamoussoukro Presidential Villa in Abidjan.

Sarkozy described Nigeria as a "giant of Africa" with enormous economic and political potentials to remain great as a country.

He hailed President Jonathan on his victory at elections and expressed optimism in his ability to succeed in office. “If you do not succeed, I can't imagine who else can," the French leader told his Nigerian counterpart.
