Operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) have killed a youth leader identified as Tajudeen Adelanwa in Ibara Onile in the Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

SaharaReporters gathered that Adelanwa was killed on Tuesday night by the operatives who were extorting motorcyclists around Ibara junction in the community.

His killing is the latest by the trigger-happy officers who appear to delight in shooting indiscriminately in crowded areas in the name of chasing smugglers.

Narrating the incident, a witness said they were shocked when the customs officials started shooting sporadically.

“It happened last night, we are taking him to the hospital now so that he can be operated on and all the bullets removed from his body,” he said.

“He wasn’t the target though, he was at the junction with some of us. We were talking when we suddenly heard gunshots. Before we know what was happening, we saw him on the ground. The officials were shooting at a bike man who they were trying to extort. They immediately ran away after the incident.”

A sister of the deceased who spoke to SaharaReporters urged the Nigerian government to investigate the issues surrounding the death of his brother.

She said the situation has become unbearable for people in the community as they can no longer continue to be losing innocent souls in the hands of Customs operatives.

The Fulani men in uniform keeps afonjas. Afonja elders needs to call their youths to order, they are always constituting nusiances everywhere they are, always trying to extort money from people. Come to lagos and see most of them being lazy and dirty at every bustop waiting to extort money from innocent drivers. They will leave their brown roof and skull mining infested states to come and disturb the peace of Lagos. They need to be shot at sight while the rest deported back

This will not stop until youths of that area start killing customs officers in return or attacking their family members if they can't kill officers because of guns they are wielding ,how many people have been questioned or arrested for their previous atrocities?i swear if any officers kill my family members I will retaliate by secretly killing 2 to 3 members of his family so we should be feeling the pain together
