You should always ask questions before descending into emotional rants.
Ask them what they did 12 years ago to make them lose access to electricity.
Actions have consequences.

I was on visit to Ondo state in Nigeria recently and i was shocked to hear from the indigenes and residents to hear about this.

Imagine asking for a cold bottle water or drink and they suddenly start laughing at you.

As a matter of fact, that’s the fastest way to identify a stranger in OKITIPUPA, ONDO STATE. just request for anything cold or iced.

To think that this people have a governor, senator, House of Rep Members is very shameful.

See below video evidence from a resident and pictures of the dilapidated electric poles that ought to be distributing light.

Shame on their leaders.

Please share or tag all the appropriate authorities until they fix it.

Modified: Another Nairalander replied to say it’s even about 16 years. Mehn! The government is wicked!

PS: I am having issues uploading the video
more than 16yrs...Agagu is from Okitipupa, Jimoh Ibrahim, agboola, aiyedatiwa go mention few.

Hmmm
Op, don't say anything about what you know nothing about. I'm from Okitipupa. That's my home town. Our people caused what they are facing with electricity now. Back in the days, Okitipupa has the best electricity services in ondo state. They refused to pay for power. Then had a major issue with the then NEPA which forced the federal government to disconnect the entire town.
Fast forward to 6 months later, they had a major riot about the issue and thugs burnt all the transformers in the town, burnt all the NEPA offices in the town and even killed some staffs that year. After that, they were totally ignored.
Even now that electricity have been privatized. BEDC who is in charge of power in ondo state asked the people of the town to pay 50% of what they owe and they will help restore power to the town but they refused. Claiming they must see power before they pay any money. Now the town has no hope of ever having power cuz BEDC vowed not to spend millions of naira to restore all the damages if there is no guarantee that they will get their money back.
The governor cannot even intervene since electricity is now in private hands. We are facing a lot of issues with BEDC at the moment and that's down to the fact that the company is owned and controlled by some stupid Benin people.
How can you come online to disgrace yourself like this when everyone knows that the CEO of BEDC, Mrs Funke Iyabo Osibodu is a Yoruba woman?
When Governor Obaseki was at a loggerhead with her in 2018 because of poor power supply, your people felt she was being victimised that even members of the National Assembly were in Edo state to mediate in the face-off. Even the Head of Cooperate Affairs of BEDC who died recently, Mr Tayo Adekunle is from where?
Now that you know a Benin person is not in charge, who are the stupid people?
Below is the link of the Board of Directors of BEDC.

Apology accepted my brother. We are in the same boat on these DISCOS wahala.I understand how you feel about the DISCOS and the ordeal you have gone through.

I hope you will get a prepaid meter someday but you will still be servicing old debts when you pay for units. If you pay 10000naira for units 60% covers the debt(6000naira) and 40% will be the units you get after VAT deduction.

The advantage is you pay for what you use and you are free from estimated bills and threat of disconnections.

I wish you a nice weekend.

If I was not there I could have doubt the story as I just came back from Igbokoda after Okitipupa for my brother's wedding between Friday September 3rd and Sunday September 5th. Infact its actually 15 years. I was told by my In-Law that they just flash the light once and for the past 15 years they have not witness light since then. It just can understand what is the problem in this part of the world.

But the electricity issue in Ondo South started in 2014 after transition of to private ownership. The Benin Electricity Distribution Company BEDC put 5 out of the six local government in the South senatorial districtict into blackout, starting from Ore. Attempt to make BEDC respore supply met a brickwall as the discos insist the area is indebted to the tune of billions. The question is how can a new company claim to be owed such amount. Did the PHCN transferred debt to them after the takeover bid. This was the question people were asking. After a long while, Power was restored to Ore in Odigbo local government leaving the remaining four in darkness. This has been the situation since 2014. Several protest has been held. Consultation has been made. Article has been written. On one of the protest led by a group, National revolutionary Vanguard, Mimiko himself sent forces to thwart the agitation. The governor saw through his second term without bringing solution to the protracted crisis. Akeredolu is on his second term, yet no solution has been profered. The deputy president, Osinbajo has visited the region and the issue was a topic. Talk about iresponsible leadership, that's the case here.
No.
This is not a case of irresponsible leadership.
The blame lies squarely with the people.
Electricity is not free that is a fact but the people think they can get it for free by introducing
elements of violence.
Since BEDC is a private company, the only reason they wouldn't supply electricity if they know
they can't get paid or safety issues.

Do you know the number of transformers, cables and subsations that were vandalized by so-called
protesters?

Some of these "protesters" even sometimes destroy NEPA infrastructure out of envy of neighboring towns
with electricity to spread misery.

If the town leaders traditional and political can hold a meeting and guarantee the safety of NEPA equipment and staff as
well as pay for the damages that was caused by "angry youths", electricity will be restored asap.

What could they have done to deprive them of their fundamental human right
First, electricity is not a fundamental right.
If you don't pay, you don't get it.

I tell you that most villagers in Nigeria don't enjoy light, even those that have their electric Poles still standing.
PHCN only focus on cities and urban areas because those are the places they believe that actually use the light for business and are willing to pay for it.
That's very bad of them.
