Hmm.

The guy should be properly investigated because armed robbers have used fake guns to rob innocent people of their valuables.

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse, remember.

The guy needed to have obtained permission from the Police to venture into this.

The law regulating Robbery and Fire Arms Act. Provides that if a person robs people with fake gun, he will be liable to penalties just like someone who used real guns....

summary: everything we do, each day has legal implications.
So, we must be close to the law and lawyers. Not alienated from our laws and the law enforcement agents.
People Rob even with knife ,u mean knife makers should obtain clearance from the police.

and that warrants his incarceration and public humiliation? What was professional in this rubbish by the NPF? If they had done any investigation, they would've known what the guns were for, but instead they rushed to parade him in their usual style. In which sane country have you ever seen where people are paraded without being convicted of crimes? Do you have sense at all?
Thought lagos state banned parading of suspect!

You sure know that gun is meant for shooting.

And, knife is primarily for cutting vegetables, peeper, orange, mango, other fruits.
Occasionally, knife is used for slaughtering chicken.
It is also, used, for slaughtering other animals...

If somebody uses knife to rob, or even a broken bottle; such a person will, on conviction, be liable to the penalty as the person who used gun. This is because the violent aspect of the crime is tantamount one to the other.

But you wanted to derail the discuss. Pls let's use every opportunity to learn and increase in knowledge, not just for long arguement

Abi ooo.

The guy was arrested with locally made guns and not toys.

But if this is true beyond doubt, then why would some actors and actresses stick their necks out for him and claim he does the work for them as stated in the article? I don't think people who are well known and can be traced would make baseless claims that he is innocent, because they could be implicated.

In the article, it was stated that he has been credited for props in well known movies. This was investigated by a credible source according to the Article. It would be very risky if these were paraded lies, because anyone can browse and investigate in Nigeria and find out what really happened. Why would Premium Times lie about something they could be sued for? To save one man, because of what? They wouldn't just lie. Doesn't make sense.

The few names speaking out on this guy's case and the movies are solid proof that he is not a criminal.

I'm surprised that nobody has pointed this out. Lots of people talking like they didn't see those statements.

Yeah.. It was confusing to me also, but I had read the original police report on the matter.

Pls zoom and look at the pictures the police released and you will find out that those are real guns but locally made. That the guns are locally does not make them any less dangerous. People get robbed and killed with locally made guns all the time in Nigeria.

Bellow is the police report from the initial thread.

Police arrest welder who specializes in manufacturing and selling locally made guns to criminals in Akwa Ibom
Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a suspected gun manufacturer, Ekike Hector David.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Odiko MacDon, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, September 14, said the suspect, a welder specializes in fabricating and selling locally made rifles and other types of guns to criminals.

"On the 13th of September, 2021, at about 1pm, Surveillance Team of 'A' Division located at Barracks Road, while on routine stop and search operation to stem criminal activities along Uyo Village Road and environs, arrested one Ekike Hector David of Mbiokporo 1 in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area with eight locally fabricated AK47 Rifles, one (1) Pump Action, one (1) pistol and six (6) Dane Guns," the statement reads.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a welder who specializes in making and selling locally made Rifles and other types of guns to criminal elements who use same in terrorising innocent members of the public."

The Commissioner of Police, CP Amiegheme Andy has ordered for an elaborate investigation aimed at arresting those who enjoy his patronage and other conspirators.

give me the license name required before takin possession of fake guns

And as well go to the toy shop for kids and arrest them..... Ingrate

These guys I quoted are really daft ooo.

Where is his license from the authorities that gave him permission to manufacture and transport firearms?. That he procures fake guns for movie makers don't make him above the law.

THOSE THINGS ARE NOT REAL GUNS AND DO NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO STORE BULLET OR SHOOT A BULLET.THEY ARE MORE LIKE WOODEN TOYS BUT THE POLICE HAVE IN THEIR STATEMENT MADE US TO FEEL THAT THE GUNS ARE REAL.
MY OWN ADVICE IS THAT THE POLICE SHOULD RECRUIT WELL QUALIFIED GRADUATES AS DETECTIVES RATHER THAN THOSE WHO PICK INNOCENT PEOPLE TO KILL AND GET PROMOTED.SOME OF THEM FIND ENGLISH VERY DIFFICULT TO SPEAK.IF NIGERIA WAS LIKE MEXICO WHERE THERE ARE DEVLISH GANGS,THESE POLICE OFFICERS WOULD BE VERY CAREFUL KNOWING THAT THEY COULD PICK THE INNOCENT BROTHER,SISTER,COUSIN,FATHER OR MOTHER OF A KINGPIN AND THAT COULD ERASE THEIR ENTIRE GENERATION.

You are very upset and cant sleep because your fellow criminal have been nabbed by the police.

If not that you are a very_daft criminal, you would have realized that those guns are not toys but real locally made guns but no less dangerous.

Criminal olodo wey you be.. Does those guns look like toys to you? Those guns are real locally made guns but very dangerous.

Many innocent Nigerians have lost their lives in the hands of armed robbers, bandits and boko haram members wielding locally made guns such as this.

YOU SOUND LIKE AN ILLITERATE.YOU MEAN YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD THE WORD "MOVIES" AND HOW THINGS ARE MADE TO LOOK REAL.
THOSE GUNS ARE FABRICATED FROM IRON AND ALUMINIUM AND YET YOU SOUND AS IF THE INNOCENT GUY SHOT YOU WITH ONE.THAT MAN IS INNOCENT AND IT COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE.JUST PRAY THAT YOU ARE NOT STOPPED ON YOUR WAY BACK HOME AND LABELED A ROBBER WITH A LOCAL PISTOL PLACED AROUND YOU.
THE POLICE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DISAPPEARANCE OF SO MANY YOUNG MEN,SOME WERE SHOT AND THEIR BODIES THROWN AWAY SOME WERE LABELED AS ROBBERS AND SENT TO PRISON WHILE OTHERS ARE AWAITING TRIAL.RATHER THAN SPEAK THE TRUTH TO STOP THIS ACTS,YOU SUPPORT THE EVIL.YOU MUST BE A FOOL.
