cahnellven: east germany (former DDR) is economically underdeveloped, has higher unemployment rate and has more racism than the rest of germany but that mainly applies for the countryside |

have you lived in the east? Trust me with the rest of the world they ain't underdeveloped but the south is definitely richer and besides you stand to learn the language faster in a city with fewer internationals, every african I have met says that, I'm presently in the east, fine in the villages you could find Nazis but really even the young germans don't go to the villages. Most people that have lived in the east never have anything bad to say but people who never lived there seem to feel they're racist without proof. If you interested in germany just try and get there but the only barrier I see in settling is the Language but not location HARTZIV: 1 Like |

Anyone coming to Germany My advice, well, bring a lot of sweaters though you could get for 15 euros here, hoody, a trainers / chocks would be fine (one would do). Germans don't care if you wear Gucci (It's best you get winter boot and coat here). Bring necessities (toiletries) you would need for the first week and Indomie too, cos you gonna struggle with the food. N.B: Liquid ain't allowed on flights and put most toiletries and all that in transparent nylon. If you need a cheap flight take Emirates, it's long but they would just keep on feeding you and you would beg them to stop + you get a meal voucher at dubai airport + you could watch new movies and series on the flight..e.t.c. and most of all sign up for your schools Student Buddy program unless you have someone who's willing to assist you in your city or else you would struggle and waste a lot of money. 9ja and germany are totally different trust me Germans are nice, they don't need a penny from you. My student buddy actually loaned me 90 Euros and was willing to loan me 250 which is the whole thing but I hate debts till my block account becomes active without me asking her. They wouldn't talk to you because they ain't open like 9ja but they're really nice. Wish you all the best you would get here if you really want to and for anybody new in application Google is always your best friend. 11 Likes 1 Share |

segadebayo: underdeveloped is relativ.. maybe saying economical not as powerful as the rest would be better... the same with racism: its not a real problem in any part of germany but in the east is statistically more racism than in the rest (if u compare the election result of the right wing party und the crime statistics) not saying the east is generally bad especially the infrastruktur in the east might be better because of the "Solidaritätszuschlag" 1 Like |

Just a thought. I looks as if the Euro is taking a plunge against the Naira. I looked at exchange rate data for 1 Year from XE.com and since july the Euro's value against the Naira has been on a steady downard trend. Around march this year ex. rate was about 1 Euro = 229 Naira as at today it was 1Euro = 210 NGN. Thats a savings of 19 Naira. 19*8000 = NGN 152,000. So do we say now is a good time to buy and keep against when needed ? 1 Like |

I ain't arguing with nobody, just been here a few days. I actually met a lecturer in nigeria who lived here 11 years before going back, he didn't really have a point of view of any location to him the whole germany is cool. I have a relative who stays here he feels the same way about the east but he has never been here. Am in the east. what I really notice is there are alot of aged people in the city am in. and at times you get that stare (from old peeps above 60 I would say) but thats in all cities, people in the south and west get that too. If you're the only black in a place you get that a lot. I know people in northern nigeria who say the press exaggerate the stories of the north but they never really experienced Boko haram. All I'm saying when you live in a place you in the best position to judge. Tschuss Realk1: 3 Likes 1 Share |

Am not the 1 asking it ooh, its my friend..I told him about this thread and all the people who are studying and those who are preparing to study...so he started asking those questions..when I told him my own part..he wasn't yet convinced dat was why I had to make it public so I can convince him. As for me, I don't need any one to educate me or make me see reason why I should study abroad...cuz I no fully well dat the Nigerian Educational System has notin to offer...See Germany for we to apply for undergraduate we must go do 1 year for university cuz our Educational Standard is too low. People complain everyday for no Job, of which der are so many Jobs around but no Company is ready to Employ a graduate dat cannot offer anything useful...Companies are looking for professionals with wide arrange of not only Academic Exellence but Exposour..Can u compare a Nigerian Graduate with a German Graduate? Or compare an MIT graduate with the Best University graduate in Nigeria? kelly4top: |

HARTZIV:Just to explain some things, 'economically underdeveloped' may not be the term I will use for East Germany. In relative terms, many states in west Germany apart from Bremen and Saarland are richer than the eastern states. One, Is that the east came from a different economic system to integrate into the west at a cost and don't forget it was a progressive shinning star of the eastern Soviet blocks with marked prosperity. The thing is that Germany economy is very strong at a time when almost all the European countries are struggling. The GDP per capita of the eastern states are still above $30K per person. Mind you Nigeria is currently $5k per capita and we are screaming giant of Africa. At that, the East is better than all the eastern blocks, Portugal ($23k) and many places. Neighborhood Poland and Czech is $12k and $19k respectively. Its just that they are overshadowed by the west. The unemployment rate is almost double the national average but still not overtly outrageous. Things have gotten far better in recent times. They also have nice places like Berlin, Potsdam, Leipzig, Dresden, etc. Well, this lengthy write up is in defence of the east, why? Its because my school is there. Nice job you are doing by the way. 5 Likes |

Re: German Embassy And Visa by HARTZIV: 1:04am On Oct 08, 2014 |
cahnellven: magdeburg is a big city (no countryside) frankfurt is very expenciv but the rest of the cities u mentioned are ok to study but i wouldnt decide based on the city only important too: - reputation of the university (in the field u want to study) - do you like the orientations of the course (some universitys might focus on differnt things even if the name of the course is the same) - do u like the offered Specialisation modules 1 Like 1 Share |

I'm telling you, Germany is one of the best place you can live in Europe. Some people say they are police country, because those people are criminals. Don't commit crime, don't do drugs, if you want to enter train or bus make sure you have your BVG ticket. I love Germany! You will also love it, some say they are racist but for me they are very friendly especially when you speak their language. Try and learn a bit of German it will make things much easier for you. Just a few tips, enjoy your stay! Welcome to Germany!! God bless Nigeria!, God bless Germany! Danke!! 6 Likes |

cahnellven:The state with the least foreign borns, Saxony Anhalt, Dessau Institute of Architecture (Anhalt University, Dessau City. As HARTZIV rightly pointed out, Magdeburg is a city, the capital of Saxony Anhalt. On the other hand, another thing you should note, if location of the schools are of Paramount importance to you is this, the position of the city in relation to other importance cities. |

ricoel:In Germany, there are many many schools (over 350) in choice locations as there are stars in the sky. Therefore the choice of the most beautiful and treasured of the lot is now left to the beholder. Google 'daad international student', he is your friend, use the tool on the site to select as many schools as possible that you meet their requirements, no holds barred. After examining the ones that you have been accepted in, you can then use criteria like ranking in the course and location to choose as it may suit your fancy and aspirations. In all you do, don't forget to thoroughly go through this thread. AT LEAST, 100 pages back before making a decision (read all the 400 and something if you can, its highly recommended). giftwalter: You have said it all. When you come here you will have more to say as you cannot compare both in terms of quality education and standard. Tell that your friend that everybody's destiny is not the same. When he points negative examples to you, then point positive examples to him. Avoid those that always see the negative side of life.
