Tonto Dikeh draws the ire of fans for flaunting her crystallized diamonds

Have you ever googled the word floss? "To FLOSS, to strike a pose, a profile, or looks flashy, rich, appears to have a lot of money, The origin of floss is apparently from Jay Z rap song "Money aint a thing". Nollywood's equivalent of floss is the saying, "When you are big you are big" made popular two years ago by actress Uche Jombo (make sure to say it with a drawl). When a Nollywood insider makes that statement about someone, then the person in their estimation has reached a certain status in their career were they can afford certain luxuries and should know what and what not to celebrate.

"Bigz boyz/galz syndrome" is a disease that has reached epic proportions both in Nollywood and the Nigerian music industry. However, one rule remains sacred and that is when you floss, care must be taken to ensure that tools of the flossing trade are genuine. For example, you must make sure you can pronounce the name of the designer you want to buy or are wearing. Take the case of the actress who mispronounced Christian Louboutin's name so badly that people around almost lost their drinks. Do not claim to be wearing an Oscar De La Renta gown on a red carpet in Los Angeles when you know it's off the rack. That is an invitation to be sued and there are just too many lawyers in LA to fool around, like that. If you doubt us, ask a certain Ghanain actress about her bout with Oscar De la Renta.

Now this brings me to Tonto's crystal vs. diamond story. A few days ago, popular actress, Tonto Dikeh whose role in "Dirty Secrets" skyrocketed her Bigz gal status confidently released pictures of a set of jewelry flaunting them as diamonds. According to reports, the diamond set was a gift from her boyfriend and she was apparently making plans to put them in a bank. If you know Nollywood, you will know that the intent behind the release of the photograph was to further solidify Tonto's Bigz gal status as bonafide. However, the ploy backfired as ever present foul mouthed Nollywood fans quickly set her straight. They disdainfully schooled her on the differences between Swarovski Crystals (polished glass) and real diamonds. Nollywood fans especially those online can be brutal sometimes but they can also smell irrational flossing. In essence, they have seen diamonds and crystals on actresses like Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic, Ini Edo and even Van Vicker but never seen these actors place them on rough pink sheets, take a picture and then show the world. Some of the commentators wanted to know why this was even news and used the opportunity to trash the actress for the colossal mistake.

Lessons learned and we are sure that Tonto and her team will not make this kind of silly mistake again. After all, when you are big, you should know the difference between real diamonds and crystals.
