EKITI TOPS OTHER STATES IN TRANSPARENCY, CITIZENS ENGAGEMENT INDICES

The commitment of the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led administration to transparency and accountability in governance has paid off with Ekiti State emerging as the second most transparent and integrity-compliant State in Nigeria.

The 2021 Transparency and Integrity Index (TII) survey which was carried out by the Center for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Watch (CeFTIW), a non-partisan organization, in a recent release ranked Ekiti State second with 73.33% , with Kaduna State coming first with 76.67% rating.

Kwara State with 65,00 per cent was ranked third in the report.

According to the report by the Centre whose aim is to promote accountability, transparency within the public sector and ensure good governance at all levels, the 36 States of Nigeria were assessed based on their commitments to fiscal transparency, budget implementation, open procurement and contracting, and citizens’ engagement.
The Centre stated that citizens can only hold their governments accountable when they know how they are being governed; adding that though all the 36 States have communication channels to facilitate citizens’ engagement, only Ekiti and two other States have domesticated the Freedom of Information (FOI) Law.

“The UN is of the opinion that informed citizens can make decisions on how they are governed. Information is power. Only when citizens know how they are governed can they hold their governments accountable for their decisions and actions. Therefore, universal access to information is the cornerstone of healthy and inclusive societies. The TII Index 2021 will provide the benchmark to rate public sector institutions in Nigeria and, at the same time, empower Nigerians to demand accountability at all levels”, the report states.

In the survey, local governments were considered parts of the State and were not assessed separately. Under the States Variables Compliance ranking for local governments, Ekiti scored one point and was joint 4th with Kaduna State but was ranked third in its compliance with Anti-Corruption laws and Citizens’ engagement.

In Budget and Audit reports, Ekiti ranked next to Kwara, Taraba and Yobe who were joined first, while it was fifth in procurement ranking.

The executive summary of the report revealed that 20 states published the list of its awarded contracts between 2016 and 2020, while 19 states disclosed the list of the contractors.

Governor Kayode Fayemi said the administration would continue to uphold the tenets of transparency and accountability in government as well as excellent service delivery to the citizens.

Education will always remain the key to the progress of any state or nation. Ekiti is doing so well because of the highly enlightened people living in the state and quite easy for the right thing to be done. Though not from the state, I am working towards getting my kids to learn in one of the best schools in the state.

If not that Nasir el-Rufai is an Islamic fundamentalist and Fulani bigot, I would have said that he's the best presidential candidate that will ever come from the north in the near future.

The only person who doesn't appreciate the great job he is doing in Kaduna should be someone who hates progress and development. That man is smart and well-educated, and knows his onions in the leadership circus.

Delta state sabi MAGO MAGO !

No element of TRANSPARENCY right from Asaba the Delta state capital.

DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT SYSTEM IS FILLED WITH FRAUD as far as employment is concerned.

COMMON TEACHING JOB THEY WILL TELL YOU TO COME TO ASABA, DELTA STATE CAPITAL AND THEY WILL BE DEMANDING FOR
N500,000 to connect you towards getting a teaching job at the ministry of education.

The teaching jobs you will still not get as you will be swindled by the Delta state government ministry officials.

Scammers, fakers, Identity thieves, extorter plenty there.

ETHNICITY is also a problem in Delta state as they play ethnic and clannish politics.

They hardly give jobs to non indigene or settlers.

FOR THIS REASONS DELTA STATE NEVER GROW OR DEVELOP.

UNTIL DELTA STATE EMBRACE A FEDERAL PARTY OR A PARTY LIKE THE APC WHO IS AT THE CENTRE THEY WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY CLANNISH POLITICS with their so called PDP.

Meanwhile, PDP as a party is not even taking the state forward.

The same PDP that they continue to vote for year in year out never creates jobs.

Never develop the Warri seaport or Koko seaport.
