Solution To Nigeria's Population Crisis by playmode(m): 12:38pm On May 29, 2011 |
I wrote a small piece about this issue a few years ago where i toyed with some ideas ,here goes : Nigeria should set up a population bureau Nigerian Population Bureau (NPB) Services/Departments : Population Monitoring Pregnancy Licensing Marriage Licensing Births Recording Death Recording Immigrant Permits Citizen Bio Database Prosecution of Population Law Breakers Population Monitoring: This department would monitor the rate at which population is growing in all areas of the country e.g births ,deaths ,migrations and make recommendations to the Govt on what to do to balance the population in each state to avoid overcrowding like the case of Lagos e.t.c Marriage Licensing Couples who wish to get married will be issued a Marriage License to do so and marriage certificate after they have done so.A man gets only one License so he can only marry one woman. The same applys to the woman. Pregnancy Licensing: This department will issue a pregnancy license to couples who have applied to get permission from the Government to get pregnant. Before the License is issued officials of this department will investigate the couple and make sure that they both earn enough to afford raising a child. The Licences will be valid for 12 months within the which the couple must conceive. If they fail to conceive within that 12 months ,they need to re-apply for a new license and go through the application process all over again. Birth recording This department will have some officials stationed in public hospitals who will manually and digitally record births at those hospitals. An manual live birth certificate will be issued at the hospital 24 hrs after the child is born and a digital one issued 7 days after. This department will also issue an identity/social security number for the child on the Birth certificate. Death recording This department will record deaths of all citizens and non citizens alike and issue digitized death certificates. Immigrants permits This department will issue temporary residency permits, permanent residency permits and citizenship to foreigners living in Nigeria. Citizen Bio Database This department will keep all records of Nigerian citizens e.g date of brith ,social security number ,academic qualification, current employment ,spouse ,children, picture and finger prints e.t.c Prosecution of Population Law breakers Certain laws will be enacted based on the function of the above departments e.g A man can only have one wife and a maximum of 3 kids,no more polygamy. A couple must first get permission from the state before they can get pregnant e.t.c Failure to comply with these laws will lead to severe punishment.Undercover officers of this department will be planted into the society to sniff out law breakers like people who have married 20 wives or had kids with several women. _______________________________________________ Feel Free to add your own ideas |

@Playmode we have all those. there's a birth and deaths registry in every local government. Its just not enforced and monitored adequately. Thats where birth and death certificates come from. @the troll (gernded): Contributing meaningfully wont hurt you for once. How is population management done in Ghana? (at least you should be able to oppress with that instead of posting useless posts). |
