HOLY MOSES: BIBLICAL archaeologists have claimed to have located the holy mountain where the Bible says God gave Moses two stone tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments.

They believe features and archaeological remains on the site in Saudi Arabia directly line up with the passage in the holy tome, some of which are fenced off as protected areas by the Saudi theocratic regime.

According to the Book of Exodus in the Bible, Moses leads the Israelites to Mount Sinai which is enveloped by fire, smoke and thunder.

The prophet then ascends the mountain where he convenes with God to receive the Ten Commandment.

For this reason, Mount Sinai is one of the most important sacred places in the Jewish, Christian and Islamic religions.

But while most people think this miraculous event is a work of fiction — written hundreds of years after it supposedly took place — there are some who claim mounting evidence that indicates it really happened.

A mountain range in Egypt was for hundreds of years thought to be the site of the holy mountain.

But sleuths from the biblical archaeologist organisation the Doubting Thomas Research Foundation claim this is wrong and have compelling evidence to prove this.

Foundation president Ryan Mauro, who is a Middle East expert, told the Sun: "One of the main reasons certain scholars claim that the Exodus is a myth is because little to no evidence for what the Bible records has been found at the traditional Mount Sinai in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

"But what if these scholars have actually been looking in the wrong spot?

"Move over into the Arabian peninsula and you find incredibly compelling evidence matching the Biblical account."

'SCORCHED MOUTAIN PEAK'

The real holy site, he says, is in the northwestern province of Saudi Arabia and there is strong evidence to prove this.

The researchers then went on to identify Jabal Maqla, a peak within the Jabal al-Lawz mountain range, as Mount Sinai.

The Bible said God descended on Mount Sinai as a fire.

And they claim the mountain, with its clearly blackened peaks, suggests this is the site.

'SIGNS OF PATH UNDER RED SEA'

In the Book of Exodus Moses holds out his walking stick and God parts the waters and they manage to flee.

The story goes that the water then came rushing back in and crushed the pursuing troops.

The foundation believes Nuweiba Beach is the most likely crossing point because studies have found land paths below the water.

They argue this evidence found by Swedish scientist Dr Lennart Moller reveals the remnants of the fleeing army.

It is claimed they found what they believe were the shapes of chariots which were encased in coral, although the metal and wood was long since dissolved.

Across the Red Sea, there is said to be evidence that is allegedly a possible match for the Biblical campsite Elim, noted to have 12 wells and 70 palm trees with a dozen of the water sources remaining today.

MOUNT HOREB SPLIT ROCK

On the path to the suspected Mount Sinai is a towering split rock sitting upon a large hill.

The rock and hill beneath show signs of massive amounts of water erosion — yet this is in an area that receives very little rainfall.

Mr Mauro said: “We believe this distinct landmark could be the rock that God commanded Moses to strike which water then gushed forth from miraculously, providing for the Israelite population."


MOSES ALTAR

At Jabal al-Maqla there is an ancient altar site composed of uncut granite stones at the base of the mountain and the remains of what appear to be small, ancient pillars composed of marble beside it just as in the Book of Exodus.

Moses is said to have built an altar made of uncut stones at the base of Mount Sinai and sets up 12 pillars representing the 12 tribes of Israel beside it.

So far nine pillars have been found with several broken pieces of marble scattered throughout the area.

'GOLDEN CALF WORSHIP SITE'

Two more crucial pieces of evidence at this mountain are what is believed to be the Golden Calf worship site and signs of a graveyard.

Chapter 32 of Exodus tells of the Golden Calf incident, where the Israelites make a golden calf, which was an Egyptian god, and worship it while Moses is on Mount Sinai.

When Moses comes back down the mountain, the golden calf worshippers are killed for their idolatry.

Mr Mauro said: "Close to the mountain, we have this site covered with depictions of people worshipping bulls and cows.

"And what's really significant is that these petroglyphs are isolated to this area. It's not like they're carved all over the mountain."

It comes as the Doubting Thomas Research Foundation and others have discovered what they believe might be Noah's Ark.

Mount Sinai also known as the mountain of God, is synonymous with power, glory and the full manifestation of the presence of God.

It's on the same mountain it was said that Moses spoke with God face to face, and after he had seen the glory of God, his face shone, that it scared the hell out of the children of Israel. They had to put a veil over his face before he could speak with them. Exodus 34:28-33

Also, it's the mountain of transfiguration, where same Moses and Elijah appeared before Jesus, and Jesus was said to have transfigured, and His face shone as the sun. Matthew 17:2-3

It's on this mountain God gave His people of the old covenant, Israel, through Moses, the Laws of the old covenant for them to observe. However it was also on the same mountain God gave His people of the new covenant, the church, through Jesus, the Laws of the new covenant to also observe.

"This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear he Him." Matthew 17:5

And it was said that the church obeyed what God commanded them to do. John 17:6

So mount Sinai not just bears huge significance for the people of Israel, but also for the church, because it was in keeping the commandment that God gave to the church upon this mount, that church became as solid as a rock, hence the gates of hell couldn't prevail against them. Matthew 7:24-25, Matthew 16:18.

Moreover, the obedience of the commandment the church received on this mount, made the church not to require any rod or mantle as Moses and Elijah did, to be able to do great works as dividing the red sea or the river Jordan, because both the Rod and the Mantle represented the Word of God which is Jesus. Hence after they had kept His Word in obedience to God's commandment, the Spirit of God which was upon the rod of Moses and mantle of Elijah came directly upon every single one of them on the day of Pentecost. John 14:12-17, Acts 2:1-4

So the church became an army of Moses and Elijahs, hence it was no coincidence that Moses and Elijah, who represented the Law (and the Prophets) of the old covenant, were also present on mount Sinai the same time the church received the Law of the new covenant from God.

Everything that's been said, written or discovered about God has been purely human efforts. No more.

(a) The name 'Christianity'- Is it really a valid name? If so, where is it recorded? In other words, where is its identity certificate?

The name 'Christian' was used for the first time in Antioch, as we read in the Bible: Acts (11:25-26):

�Then departed Barnabas to seek Saul: and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And It came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.�

Who had given this name? Neither God nor Jesus.

We can mention the following points concerning the name 'Christianity':

1. The name does not bear the authority from God or from Jesus.

2. It was given by Jews and Pagans in Antioch (a city in the then Roman Empire), i.e., by foes rather than by friends.

3. The name was given after Jesus had left this world.

4. The name was used derogatorily, as determined by historians.

One may contend, What is there in a name? The name does not matter. This may not be a valid argument, but still for the sake of argument, let us then proceed to look for its meaning.

When somebody says that the Bible is inerrant, a good reply is to ask "Which Bible?" The first task of translators of the Bible into English is to decide which verses they want to put into each of the 27 New Testament books.

There are more than 5,000 Greek manuscripts, but not one has the same collection of verses as any popular English Bible. Indeed, there is no Greek manuscript before A. D. 800 which has 27 books in its New Testament. The Codex Sinaiticus, from about A. D. 350, comes closest, but it also contains the Epistle of Barnabas and the Shepherd of Hermas.

How did this textual variety come about, and what significance does it have?

The King James Version was produced on the basis of relatively few late manuscripts. Since then, many early manuscripts have been found. The impression is often given that these early manuscripts help us get back to what the authors originally wrote. Instead, they reveal that we can only guess what was originally written and that what was written was changed within decades, often for purely doctrinal reasons.

Let me give just a few examples, from many which could have been chosen. Take Luke 22:43-44, "And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground." This is not present in the very earliest Greek manuscripts p66 and p75 from the third century. (P66 stands for papyrus number 66, p75 for papyrus number 75). Will they be dropped from future printings of the King James Version because they are not in the earliest manuscripts we have? Somehow, I doubt it.

These verses are also omitted by Codex Alexandrinus, Codex Vaticanus (4th century), Codex Washingtonensis (5th century), etc., but are in Sinaiticus (4th century) and the great majority of later manuscripts. They are cited by the early church father Justin (c. A. D. 130). Whenever these verses were added or dropped, it must have been very early.

We know that these verses were quoted, not always exactly, in the second century by the early church fathers to counter the heretical view that Jesus was not a real human being and only quoted for that doctrinal purpose.

For example, Justin said, "(I)t is recorded that His sweat fell down like drops of blood while He was praying... in order that we may perceive that the Father wished His Son really to undergo such sufferings for our sakes, and may not say that He, being the Son of God, did not feel what was happening to Him and inflicted on Him" (Dialogue with Trypho, 103).

Irenaeus (c. A. D. 170) wrote, "(N)or would He have wept over Lazarus, nor have sweated great drops of blood; nor have declared, `My soul is exceeding sorrowful'; nor, when His side was pierced, would there have come forth blood and water. For all these are tokens of the flesh which had been derived from the earth, which He had recapitulated in Himself, bearing salvation to His own handiwork" (Against Heresy, 3, 22, 2).

Hippolytus (c. A. D 190) said, "Thus then, too, though demonstrated as God, He does not refuse the conditions proper to Him as man, since He hungers and toils and thirsts in weariness, and flees in fear, and prays in trouble. And He who as God has a sleepless nature, slumbers on a pillow. And He who for this end came into the world, begs off from the cup of suffering. And in an agony He sweats blood, and is strengthened by an angel..." (Against Noetus, 18).

These verses were cited only for doctrinal purposes and are missing from the earliest manuscripts of Luke's Gospel. What more proof is needed that Luke's Gospel was altered no more than decades after being written and that this was done for doctrinal reasons?

The biggest doctrinal issue in Christianity is whether Jesus is God and what the Trinity means. The earliest Christians held all kinds of views about the status of Jesus. Even as late as A. D. 200, the majority of Christians did not believe in the Trinity, as Tertullian freely conceded: "The simple, indeed, who always constitute the majority of believers, are startled at the dispensation (of the Three in One), on the ground that their very rule of faith withdraws them from the world's plurality of gods to the one only true God; not understanding that, although He is the one only God, He must yet be believed in with His own `economy'" (Against Praxeas, Chapter 3).

These sorts of disputes led to many alterations of the New Testament. At the time Tertullian wrote, many Christians believed that Jesus was God the Father. Noetus based this belief on John 14:9, "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father." The orthodox Christian Hippolytus had to go through contortions to show that this does not mean that Jesus was the Father. Is it any surprise that just a few years later, one of the very earliest manuscripts of John's Gospel we have was altered to read, "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father also"? A very useful change for doctrinal reasons.
