Gombe State Commissioner for Education, Batari Dauda; Director, Quality Assurance in the ministry, Adamu Ibrahim Haya; Director, School Services, Ahmed Madugu; and Commissioner for Information, Julius Ishaya have paid a visit to Marewo Primary School, located in Kalshingi District, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Siggy gathered that the assessment was at the order of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who was disappointed by the viral images showing the quality of learning facilities in the area.

Confirming the assessment visit by the state government via a WhatsApp post, Information Officer at the state Ministry of Education, Saidu Malala, said that the inspection was done by the Commissioner for Education, Dauda Batari, with his information counterpart, Julius Ishaya.

He said that the delegation had useful discussions with the community, and that it was geared towards achieving positive results.

The Information Officer revealed that the inspection would usher in possible government intervention for the people of the community.

Malala said, “Following an image that has gone viral on the social media showing a classroom setting in a community in Mariyo, Kalshingi District of Akko LGA, the Commissioner for Education Dauda Zambuk; and his counterpart in information Julius Ishaya, located the primary school on assessment visit and discussed with the community with a view to securing state government intervention .”

Also, speaking, Ishaya confirmed the pictures, adding that it is a community school.

He faulted the impression that the student population was 500, noting that the student size was 250.

According to Ishaya, there are processes of taking over community schools and Gombe government is making such efforts towards taking ownership of the Mariyo Primary School.

“The pictures are true, there are two huts that the community is using as classrooms. It is a community school started on 2017. It was started due to the distance from their place to the school but the Local Education Authority provided them with two teachers.

“TrackaNG should have verified; the number is not 500, it is 250 students and the processes is already ongoing for government to come in, because this is a community effort.

“What TrackaNG tried to portray is like government negligence or didn’t pay attention. But the fact remains that there are processes and procedures for taking over community schools.”
