PROFILE OF HER EXCELLENCY, HON. MRS. SUSAN NGUVEREN WAYA

The Hon. Mrs. Susan Nguveren Waya is a renowned philanthropist, humanitarian, and successful entrepreneur, consultant, politician, grassroots mobilizer, and multinational administrator. She is married to Chief Terry Waya of Mbayongo, Vandeikya Local Government Area, Benue State, and they have two children, Tersoo Waya and Terseer Waya (Kiddwaya).

Susan was born in Kwande to devout Christian parents. Pius Ordue Iulun, her late father, was a retired military officer from Kwande Local Government, and her late mother, Cecilia Kahemba Iulun, was from Ushongo Local Government, both in Benue State. She is the third child in a family of seven.

She began her academic career in Nigeria at Cantonment (A), the Nigerian Defence Academy Primary School in Kaduna, where she earned her First School Leaving Certificate in 1981. She continued her education at the famous Queen of the Rosary Secondary School in Gboko, Benue State, where she graduated in 1987.

Susan was named Assistant Head Girl for the school year 1986/1987 due to her outstanding academic performance and display of extraordinary leadership qualities. Susan would mentor young college students on personal hygiene, living a devoted Christian life, and a commitment to academic achievement throughout this period. Her exceptional leadership abilities at such a tender age endeared her to a wide range of people, including her teachers, classmates, and junior pupils.

She obtained an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Textile Technology from Kaduna State Polytechnic in 1991 and 1995, respectively, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Marketing from the same institution in 1999.

She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Management and a Master of Science (MSc) in Housing Management from the prestigious Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge and Chelmsford, respectively. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of assets management, property inventory and values, assessment, referrals, guidance, and debt management, housing legislation, and leasehold processes.

She is the Chief Executive Officer of Sears Investment Ltd., which consulted for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Benue State, on a contract that was successfully executed for landed assets verification and reconciliation across Nigeria. She successfully reconciled and valued all government housing stock within and across Nigeria. Her findings and recommendations at the end of this memorable assignment revealed many dilapidated houses, empty landed properties, as well as rented properties owned by the state government from which the state never got remittance.

She is also the Chief Executive Officer of Susannah.com (home soft furnishings); and the Managing Director of SUSCO Ltd. (service providers of housing & social care in the UK).

Mrs. Susan Waya worked as a Sheltered Housing Scheme Manager for Castle Point Council from 2006 to 2008, then as a Sheltered Housing Officer for South Essex Homes in the United Kingdom from 2008 to 2009. She successfully managed these positions to the great admiration of her employers.

In 2010 she founded the Pius Ordue Foundation to expand her humanitarian relief efforts and to help victims of natural disasters and violent conflicts in her native state of Benue and beyond.

As a philanthropist, Hon. Mrs. Susan Nguveren Waya through her NGO provided free medical examination and treatment for the elderly, supported pregnant and nursing mothers, and her passion for education was manifested through her scholarship program for over 1000 less privileged children affected by conflicts. Her NGO had supported women and young girls with seed capital and required accessories to venture into entrepreneurship.

Susan's passion and ambition is to provide an education to every young underprivileged child, especially girls so that they can grow up to be strong women who can positively impact their society as politicians, CEOs, wives, mothers, administrators, diplomats, and philanthropists, and to excel in almost any field they choose.

In 2016/2017, she successfully completed a teacher-training course, which earned her Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Upon completion, Susan took up teaching positions in post-secondary schools and institutions of human development, with the view of setting up an academic establishment for the less privileged. In this short period, she has made remarkable contributions to teaching and learning and has transferred the knowledge to her home state, to develop the capacity of the less privileged.

She was recently elected as the first female Vice-President of the Nigerian Diaspora Organization (NIDO) United Kingdom, in a keenly contested election.

At a time when Benue state is grappling with a very high debt profile, insecurity, poor infrastructure, extreme corruption and mismanagement of government lean resources, poverty, hunger, unemployment, and declining agricultural prospects, there is no better time than now to bring in a seasoned resource manager to turn our fortunes around. Successful and innovative governments are headed by performers with a creative vision and a determination to succeed where others have failed. Her experience, exposure, capacity, creativity, sense of direction, and drive are what she brings to the table to help reposition Benue state for greatness.
