You can never be bigger than the platform you ride to limelight no matter how good you are.

Barca gave him an opportunity, they gave him a freehand, they nurtured his talent and helped him grow.

There are many great talents in life, all they need to become another 'Messi' is a platform, which unfortunately, many don't have.

You can argue and say but if he is not exceptional, he wouldn't have been given the opportunity, but here is a club that paid for his medicals as a teenager, one which his family could not afford. The club believed and invested in him, they helped him become who he is today.

What's the job of the accountant, treasurer, financial advisors etc? It's easy to blame the player but the real problem was lack of oversight. They kept spending and spending but they forgot the law of diminishing returns. Messi is the best player in the world and was paid accordingly, I fail to see how this is Messi's fault, you want the best you pay the best, if you can't afford him you let him go and get a huge transfer fee for him....simple!
