Togo is a fellow but poorer West African country just like Nigeria. Your earnings as a waitress over there should be lower than what you can get from Nigeria here.

For a young 19 years old girl who doesn’t have any special training, skills or qualifications, there is a very likelihood that you have no better prospects for making money than using your body(prostitution).

Prostitution on the other hand is not entirely a bad profession if you understand what you are getting into, and you equip your mind to handle it but for the fact is that prostitution is largely illegal in most countries.

You being young, living in a foreign land and being in in an illegal profession makes you vulnerable and people can take advantage of that knowing that they are likely to get away with it.
You can end up as a forced sex worker.
Imagine having to have sex with random foreign men regardless of how you feel about them but because there is a quota you have to meet up in order to pay your madam or master.

The men who pays to have sex with you know you are a foreigner and you are engaging in an illegal business may likely end up abusing you and treating you like trash since they are paying to have your way with you.
Men don’t like parting with their money and they may get aggressive or try tricking you after sex when they “cum” to their senses and the alcohol/cigarettes illusion has worn off.

I understand your desire to change your economic status for yourself and your child,
The surest way out is for you to equip yourself with a a skill. You can learn tailoring.
You will have to self develop yourself less as a girl you have nothing else to offer except your body.

Good luck to you

We are leaving on the 18th of October I am getting worried I hope I have taken the right opportunity for me and my daughter. Your advise is needed please

You are not struggling for your daughter because she must survive, whether you are there or not

Going to Togo is like leaving your village to a more vibrant city

But bear in mind that you are going for prostitution

So be prepared

You think going to Togo is the best you can do? Hope you won't be leaving your child with your supposed poor parents? To think you blame your parents for being poor and you have already given birth at 19... If you know what is good for you, you will stay back and find something meaningful to do with your life.

.....What kind of business can you do?

Check and let me know. I stay in Enugu too.
You don't need to meet with me. If you are honest. A lady from my office will see you to confirm your story and if it's true, then we shall give you some funds to start up a business and monitor you.

Let me know when you are ready.

Going to work as a 'waitress' in a poverty-stricken, French-speaking country when you can't even speak French to begin with? grin A trafficker wants to go sell you into prostitution, for your information.

She 'loves' you so much so that she is willing to cover your travelling expenses, feeding and accommodation because she is mother Christmas. grin

You made one mistake of having a baby in an unpleasant economic condition. Don't make a graver mistake by embarking on a suicidal trip that will damage your life beyond repair. That's if you don't get killed over there. Yes the life of a trafficked victim has zero worth in the hand of a trafficker. sad

No.
Re: Should I Travel To Togo Or Not by eyinjuege: 7:31pm On Oct 12, 2021
Just go and do housemaid or nanny in a major city like Abuja.
I'm sure there will be rich couples willing to take you on and perhaps even want you to speak your language to their children, so their kids can speak Igbo.
But you will have to leave your child with your parents and be sending money to them for her upkeep.
You can read and write, so you should be hotcake as a nanny.
There are nannies earning between 25 to 50K in major cities, so try your luck there. Some are even privileged to travel abroad on holidays with their bosses and the kids of their bosses.
That Togo no be am o. It sounds like a prostitution ring / trafficking.
Waitressing jobs haven't finished in Naija, so why go all the way to Togo under such dubious circumstances?
Don't go o

First, your mom did not step on "poison". Like you said, you've finished all savings on her treatment. Question is what kind of treatment? Are you sure you and your family did not waste that money on scammers and traditionalists? The use of "poison" rather than a proper diagnostic term already tells me that you guys just wasted your money. Ignorance/illiteracy and financial recklessness are like 5&6. Ignorance could make one spend 50k on traditionalists and fake prophets without results for a common illness that doctors treat at government hospitals for less than 10k.

I'm mentioning this so you don't make the same mistakes your parents made and also have a rethink on how your mom can get back on her feet. Not a good thing for both of them to be out of job or incapacitated. Their conditions might render your efforts useless.

Meanwhile, defeating poverty in a sustainable way starts by learning. Knowledge deficit, not poverty, is why you're considering moving to Togo after all that has been said about trafficking in the media.

While your decision to not end up like your parents is great, please don't go about it the wrong way. Start by exploring the opportunities around you or other parts of Nigeria. If learning a skill is not possible at this time due to finance, have you considered some of the recommendations given so far on the thread??

You are going to Togo to work as a waitress, is it difficult finding such work within your vicinity?. Don't let that your friend take you on a journey of no return!
