You know I have always wondered why some people were against the COVID vaccine when they very much took vaccines when they were young. Then, I started to understand the reason - disinformation. When the pandemic started and the government stepped in to curtail the spread of the virus by restricting social gatherings in places like markets, stadiums, churches and mosques,a lot of pastors around the world were not happy. Why? Because the church is a huge source of revenue for them, and by restricting gatherings, it means there is a lesser chance of people paying their tithes. Some churches are expensive to run, so you could kind of see why pastors like Chris Oyakhilome were keen on calling the virus a hoax. Before COVID, the antivax crowd was relatively small. But thanks to the huge number of conspiracy theories spread by religious people regarding the origins of the virus, WHO, Bill Gates and the vaccine, the antivax crowd is now bigger than ever. Now the vaccine is out and pastors are discouraging their church members from getting it, by claiming that the vaccine is a sign of the "New World Order" or "Illuminati" or "666". I'm actually not surprised that religious leaders play a huge role in the absurd amount of misinformation and disinformation out there regarding the virus. After all, what do you expect from someone who believes that diseases are caused by supernatural forces, humans can turn into salt or that sticks can turn into snakes and vice versa. Nigeria is free from polio because of vaccines, but few years back, when the Nigerian government was advocating for the polio vaccines, religious leaders, especially Imams were discouraging their followers from giving it to their kids because apparently, it causes children to be sterile. A lot of people would blame Trump for playing a huge role in downplaying the virus and causing the growth of the cancerous antivax groups around the world. But I would like to argue that most of the blame should not be on Trump. Most of it should be on religious leaders, because their followers see them as "second to god" or something and infallible humans. 2 Likes 1 Share |

That is why judgement with begin from the church ... many go to church for entertainment and not to meet the Almighty Father. And that is whythe they can be swayed in the wind like a reed. The time of recompense is drawing near and it will begin with the church. There is no Holy Spirit in our churches today that is why they preach the sermon of mammon ... prosperity. You cannot serve God and mammon . JESUS said to the rich man go sell all your properties and give to the poor, do you think there wasn't a reason ? |
