A 38-year old Nigerian national has been denied bail for attempting to smuggle 7.3 kilogrammes of cocaine out of Trinidad and Tobago via the Point Lisas Port.

The street value of the narcotics was more than $10 million.

Donatus Kelechi Nwachukwu appeared before Magistrate Alexander Prince yesterday at the Couva Magistrates’ Court, the Customs and Excise Division said in a statement.

On October 11, during a routine inspection, members of the Customs Canine Unit intercepted a package that was deemed suspicious.

“Upon further inspection, the cocaine was discovered hidden in over 800 cosmetic jars in boxes bound for South Africa. The street value of the narcotics is approximately $10,175,000 dollars,” the statement said.

Upon discovery, Nwachukwu was subsequently arrested and charged under section 154 of the Customs Act, Chapter 78:01 for attempting to export prohibited goods and Section 214 of the Act for attempting to export prohibited goods packed in a manner to deceive an officer of the Customs, it added.

That Kelechi na baddo, if he succeeded with that $10milli, I’m sure his cut from the money will be huge and he’ll be made for life.

Now he will have to spend the rest of his life or large portion of his remaining days in prison.

Well, get rich or die trying. Only that at this rate, people like Kelechi might become extinct because the international community is not playing anymore with drug traffickers.

Egbon...

I’m not scared of the news of a criminal making front page.

But don’t you think it’s hypocritical of the set of Mods we have here that they do not equally apply same expediency that they apply in pushing negative news about Igbo to FP into pushing positive news or favourable news about the Igbos to FP?

Does it not simply show them as biased and with a sinister agenda against Ndigbo?

I think there was a news few days ago about some Yoruba guys that was nabbed for fraud in the USA on front page.

Bro the issue is that Nairaland will only push news when it happens. If 98% of drug traffickers nabbed are Igbos and they are arrested almost daily especially in India, it will look like a coordinated attack against Igbo to people if such news are pushed to front page.

If they are arresting Gboys in the USA daily and the names turn out to be Yorubas, Nairaland will always push it to the front page, we wouldn’t be angry at that or push the analogy of “they hate Yorubas” so why should you push the narrative that “they hate Igbo”?

Instead of Kanu to be campaigning against drug trafficking to AfganEASTarners, he was busy trying to collect Malami's audio donation in Kenya.

I did tell you I have no issues with such news making front page...

My grouse is, why don’t news that favour Igbo equally grace FP as the bad ones always do?

Why did that thread of Archbishop Adewale Martins of Lagos calling for Presidency to be zoned to Southeast not make FP?

Is it that he’s not enough opinion shaper?

Or that Daily Post that reported it is no longer reputable?

But these same people will always catapult every gibberish from the one man organization at MURIC.

Between Ishaq Akintola and Bishop Adewale Martins, whose views should get more attention?

Again, Did you not read about Wike brother becoming the president of Ohaneze in South Africa? Did that news make front page? No.

But trust me if it was Wike’s brother re-echoing Wike’s earlier stupid vituperation that they not Igbos, do you think it wouldn’t have been moved to FP immediately?

I know you are arguing to win and might therefore still look for what to argue with. But think through these deep down in conscience if it is still there.

Shalom ore mi!
