The 42-year stranglehold of power by former Libyan pariah leader, Muammar Gaddafi did not end without its controversies. The asphyxiation of a section of the Libyan population by the late leader made him loved and hated at the same time. While those he favored loved him, other members of the public especially those from the East hated him so much because of his perceived one-sided policy.

Muammar Gaddafi was called a tyrant, a lunatic, a dictator, a terrorist, and some other terrible names by many Western media and at a time by his own people.

In the middle of the uprising against Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the outspoken grandfather made efforts to rubbish the disgruntled agitators by calling them “a bunch of rats”. Gaddafi at the time thought everything was under his control until the unfortunate event happened. As it turned out, Muammar Gaddafi who called those rebels from the East rats ended up getting caught while cowering in a drainage pipe full of rubbish and filth. According to one of the rebels identified as Ahmed Al Sahati, “He called us rats, but look where we found him”.
