Runaway:So you really swallowed the false tale that Oshiomhole was trying to control Obaseki? Then you weren't following the issues. What happened was that immediately Obaseki got sworn in in 2016, he began governing in a self-opinionated manner, and was outsourcing appointments to his friends from Lagos, Delta and Rivers States and also to some people whom he made to come over from the UK while largely ignoring those home-based Edolites who worked so hard to market him against the fact that he was a very hard sell especially when compared with Ize-Iyamu back then. Even the relatively few natives he gave appointments, he refused to pay them decent wages . To be specific he was paying his own appointed media aides 50k monthly without any other form of benefit whatsoever all in the arguement that he wanted to reduce cost of governance and bring about a paradigm shift in Nigeria with Edo State blazing the trail. Meanwhile he would allocate as much as 4 to 5bn Naira for the executive arm of government in every year's budget. To mention a specific one among the numerous instances of Obaseki's self-centered style of governance; after emerging the APC flagbearer in 2016 through Oshiomhole's help, he placed a call to one of Oshiomhole's former media aides who had left Nigeria to permanently settle in the US to relocate back to Nigeria and use his widely acclaimed guerrilla warfare journalistic skills against the PDP which was obviously having the upper hand in the media aspect of the smear nature of the campaign. On Obaseki's promise to make him Special Adviser on media if he became governor, this guy, abandoned what he had already ventured into in the US, relocated to Nigeria in good faith, and used his mighty pen to drown PDP and sell Obaseki to Edo State voters who hardly ever knew him all before then. But on assuming office Obaseki appointed this guy as Interim Chief Press Secretary and within 8 months, sacked him, scrapped the office, now actually created the office of special adviser on media into which he appointed a totally strange journalist from Lagos who had never been involved in Edo State politicking let alone being part of the struggle to enthrone Obaseki against the ravaging PDP and the powerful campaign force of Ize-Iyamu. Numerous other examples of such treacherous dealings by Obaseki were rife in his government. Such attitude of discarding the intellectuals who worked for him and replacing them with strangers and mediocres who were his own personal loyalists became too irritating for the Edo State APC to continue putting up with amidst poor performance on basic infrastructure and abandonment of Oshiomhole's initiated projects like Central Hospital, Red Roof Revolution of primary and secondary schools, Benin Storm Project, etc when compared with Oshiomhole's. This led to friction between Obaseki and the Edo APC members who feared that the party would lose Edo State in the next election if Obaseki was allowed to continue that way especially considering the fact that he won Ize-Iyamu very narrowly in the 2016 election. Led-by Samson Osagie, the concerned party members took the matter to Oshiomhole believing that Obaseki would respect his intervention as leader of the of the party in the state and nationwide. But rather than respect his benefactor's advise that he should be more accommodating, he cooked up the narrative that Oshiomhole wanted to become godfather and also accused him of mounting pressure on him to share the state's resources among party members. Unfortunately, the unsuspecting public which wasn't aware of the details of the issue fell for that narrative and voted him for second term and here we are today with the deadly consequence. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Codebite: I disagree with your attempt to heap on Esans the blame of voting based on sentiments in Edo State. Was it also Esans that voted out Ambrose Alli who moved mountains in each and all of the 19 LGAs of Bendel State within just four years? If anything, it was the Binis that voted against him all because he was Esan. Remember that part of the reasons you Binis voted against him was that he was trying to divide the Benin Kingdom with his proposal to create LCDAs back then. Though it was a narrative that emanated from the Bendel State chapter of the NPN, Binis were the first to fall for it. Then on Obaseki's second term victory, please go over the results again and you'll see that the votes he got from the 7 Bini LGAs was what actually gave him the upper hand after the votes Ize-Iyamu had from Edo-North had drowned those Obaseki got from Edo-Central (Esanland) 1 Like |

Raiders: I want to assume you are just being sarcastic. But if not, then I will like to know how you came to the conclusion that Obaseki ever fought godfatherism in Edo State talkless of actually defeating it. I am all ears. 2 Likes |

Terrier99:Edo State people are not Igbos please. The monicker you quoted is not an Igbo person but a full blooded Edo son who happened to be a fan of Jonathan hence the automatic hatred for Tinubu and Oshiomhole which made him fall for Obaseki's fraudulent campaign gimmick even though Obaseki's failures all over the state were kissing him in the face. 2 Likes |

Terrier99: You missed that monicker's sarcasm. In addition, please be more civil. Yes we know it pains for one to realize he was fooled and scammed as those who supported Obaseki have. But it is not the fault of Yorubas or Igbos that Edo people, with all their acclaimed intelligence, could fall so cheaply for a campaign lie that a primary two pupil could have deciphered without much racking of his head. 1 Like |

ityP:This is not about Buhari. We all know that choices on presidential elections in Nigeria are not about issues but about the need to prosecute political vendetta or prove the point that no tribe owns Nigeria hence people would not mind voting for the obviously less promising candidate to prove that point. We saw it happen when in 1993 the current SE voted for Abiola against the obviously worse Tofa just to spite Yorubas and how the Old Rivers State (Now Bayelsa and Rivers) gave Tofa a whooping 66% in that election out of loyalty to their NRC in pursuit of what they felt was a better deal for them at the center. Also, the people of the present SE and SS voted in 1999 for Obasanjo who had failed as military HOS, and again voted for him in 2003 which was just 3 years after he ordered the genocide in Odi town located in their own SS region....all in a bid to spite Yorubas. And mind you that Yorubas even voted massively against this same Buhari in 2011 in the interest of Jonathan who obviously appeared better then, but in 2015 had to vote Buhari to prove a point to Jonathan. But, at the states level, elections are less about political vendetta and more about germane issues hence you can't compare them. |

ityP:I would that you prove that position wrong with facts. Please visit Obaseki's Facebook page and see for yourself that those currently denouncing, insulting and cursing him are those who campaigned for him under Sun and rain chanting Ogbane and Towargba. I guess they are Tinubu's lovers too yet they campaigned for Ogbane, right? The truth is that within just 10 months Obaseki's campaign gimmick has been exposed for the monumental lie it was and those who fell for it can't now forgive themselves while those who saw through the facade back then aren't even complaining right now. 2 Likes |

Deadlytruth: My point: no Buharist has a moral right to even discuss Obaseki's failures. Oshiomhole that you're indirectly trying to hail, rained curses on Obaseki's opposition and contributed to his woes at the polls. Obaseki was once a very good boy to Oshiomhole. So, stop crying here. Politics in naija has NEVER been about the people; whether state level or federal level. Accept this and know peace |
Re: Edo PDP Suspends Obaseki, Shaibu’s Loyalists by Deadlytruth(m): 12:08am On Oct 27, 2021 |
ityP:In one line you argue that elections at both state and federal have never been about the people, but in another line you implicitly complain that those who voted for Buhari harmed the people. So where exactly do you stand? No Buharist has complained to you that Buhari has disappointed him. But those who supported Obaseki are the very ones now accusing him of failure. There lies the difference. If they the Ogbanes and Towargbas weren't complaining and asking for Obaseki's head right now, we wouldn't be in this argument. Then I can't even make any meaning of your claim that Oshiomhole rained curses on Obaseki's opposition and contributed to his woes at the polls. I can't make any sense out of that. As for Tinubu, his supporters can't be crying at this time seeing the gale of direct and indirect endorsements flowing his way from across the entire nation and even from among the PDP. You are the one crying about Tinubu while I am only responding to the Ogbanes and Towargbas now crying about their Obaseki. Likewise, At the point of entry into PDP, Obaseki was very loyal to PDP which initially adjudged him a huge failure but changed tune on signing him in but has again changed back to their previous tune now that he is killing the party and demanding for their structure by suspending Dan Orbih and Ogbeide Ihama. I repeat; at state level, politics is quite issues based because state governments are closer to the people and are more responsible for their needs than the national government hence people could afford to use federal elections as weapons of political vendetta than as tools to vote for the actual betterment of the country. I have already given you a lot of examples which you have not been able to counter. 2 Likes 1 Share |
