Nigeria is a funny country You want good education but you dont want to pay for it and you wonder why so many Nigerian graduates are bus drivers? You say no removal of fuel subsidy but you spend more than your education budget on fuel subsidy, more on fuel subsidy than the annual budget for roads all so you can drive on bad roads that ruin your cars. 2 Likes |

It will still eventually happen. The continuous subsidy of tertiary education for students nationwide is a time bomb waiting to happen. First, Nigeria is not that rich to keep up with the scheme. Second, the students who are the beneficiary are ungrateful likewise their parents so after getting the cheap and subsidized education, prefer to go abroad to contribute to their GDP not ours. Third, once tertiary education subsidy is stopped, stupid and irrelevant courses such as Linguistics, History, Music, Zoology, Microbiology etc will find it hard to survive since many students and parents will not be willing to break the bank to study these courses. 4 Likes |

othermen: ASUU champion of what? You want to compare a professor that has not brought in any invention to a manager of some parastatals, on what moral ground ? You compare salaries of polytechnic and COE lecturers and forget to ask how money is shared among these groups. You compare a lecturer abroad and one in Nigeria. But forget to ask your self the exchange rate, what both lecturers give to student.. funny enough most lecturers Nigerian will not board a plane manufactured by their own students. You say ASUU wants Universities to be funded, but what have they done with the funds they get. I tell you, they are fighting for their pockets. I hate it when people say children of politicians should go to public universities when even the lecturers send their children to private and even foreign universities. If the universities are run properly 1 million naira school fees is not too big. Do you lots think education is cheap. Do you know how much it costs to buy equipments for laboratories and workshops. Even in the US most people cannot afford to go to the University, some are in the university through scholarships. If that girl that was dancing half naked paid 1 million naira for school fees will she be dancing naked at the expense of being expelled? ASUU should just stop all these half truth. For your information, I am not speaking for the government and I am not an Idealist am a realist. 5 Likes 1 Share |

You can only create a student loan when there's a greater guarantee that when students graduate there's many jobs opportunity, otherwise the interest will keep increasing in infinity ♾️. Nigeria doesn't have the infrastructure and database to run student loan 7 Likes |

What will happen to defaulters... Why not invest the loan in education and student continue with current tuition or lesser... I think it's a way government want to reduce the number of educated people in Nigeria... They just copy copy! They should go and enquire the psychological tragedy that befalls graduates in the US there are copying from who are unable to pay the loan where they have more job opportunities! 2 Likes |

"He said government’s plan was to open an education bank and give each student a loan of N1m annually at five per cent interest rate to sponsor themselves in school and then pay back when they graduate and start working." This can ONLY happen in a working society, where graduates are guaranteed to secure a job that can enable them repay the loan as soon as possible in a very easy way that won't put pressure on them while taking care of other personal bills. Nigeria is not ready for something like this...It works at developed countries like USA. Nigeria is far from this |

That means that the government will be giving student three hundred thousand naira every year and at the same time be paying the students school fees, but the evil idiots called ASSU refused. On a normal circumstance if a nigga. Knows what he’s doing if he is paid 300k every year , it’s means that he can take care of himself after the university education….. ASSU has just made me angry this morning. 1 Like 1 Share |

I don’t understand why we cannot try other ideas. There are different solutions that we can amend to suit Nigeria. In the Uk, every student that is a citizen automatically qualifies for student loan if they want one. The loan body pays the school fees directly to the schools and the students also get money for their upkeep each term or year. The upkeep part even gives them more than enough to live on but in Nigeria, parents and families can still handle this. There are pros and cons. Some students never pay back all or part of the loan because the loan will only start being deducted from their salaries if they get jobs that are above a certain salary amount. Students become indebted for many years. A positive is that universities have funds that they need. As we are talking Nigeria, we will need laws that will make sure any corrupt person diverting or stealing loan money meant for students should be made to pay it back and go to jail for 50 years. 1 Like 1 Share |

I agree with u to some extent but look at it this way, if this news is true at all then ASUU failed woefully by not accepting the offer and anouncing it to look as a saint. Currently students source for money and pay for school fees and years after school still no job. Many graduates don't even work in their life time and no one takes responsibility but if that offer is implemented just like USA and other countries, the government will do more to provide for jobs so they can start working and paying off. If u graduate and don't work then the government loses their investment in u. Imagine if 1million graduates from the program don't work, how much will government lose? Now u get the point habsydiamond: 1 Like 2 Shares |

This plan would have been plausible in a sane society where things really work not in Nigeria where there's no assurance of job after graduation then if you manage to get, they pay you #30000 monthly. How then does a student get #5million plus interest to pay back? Are our leaders really serious ? 1 Like |
