The PDP national convention in 2021 has officially begun. The national anthem was played at approximately 1:05 p.m. on the 30th of October, 2021, to kick off the festivities. This was followed by prayers from both the Islamic and Christian faiths.

Headed by Benue State Executive Governor Samuel Ortom and Kano State PDP Chairman Shehu Wada, the Christian and Muslim prayers were led by their respective leaders.

In a statement, the PDP governors stated that they do not desire a political confrontation, but rather an accord that would allow them to pick the party's 21-member national officers list for the next four years, as they have done previously.

A speech by Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, will be delivered at the conference. In addition, he stated that "the country is going through the most difficult phase in its history." The PDP is not without flaws, and neither is our organization. The APC has proved that it is ill-equipped and crooked on several occasions. The unity of the PDP is a mirror of the unity of Nigeria. In order to do this, we must create a country that is not preoccupied with race and instead focuses on merit and the appropriate policy framework."


At least 27 candidates are expected to compete for 21 positions on the PDP's National Working Committee at the party's national conference in 2021. (NWC).

According to the screening committee, which was chaired by former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, the following is the complete list of those who were approved to run for the seats:
