Cristiano Ronaldo at Man Utd: Goals, assists, results & fixtures in 2021-22

Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United in the summer was undoubtedly one of the biggest transfer stories in the world of football.

As such, the Portugal international's performances for the Old Trafford club during the 2021/22 season will be under the microscope as the world awaits to see whether lightning can indeed strike twice.

After a summer of constant speculation over a possible transfer move, Ronaldo ultimately left Juventus to return to Old Trafford 12 years after his initial departure in 2009.

The 36-year-old remains one of the most prolific players in world football, with his return to England causing United fans to dream of their returning hero leading them back to silverware.

Ronaldo, though, was unable to lift Juventus to achieve Champions League glory during his three years in Italy and some have questioned the merits of United’s move given the forward’s huge pay packet and age.

Whatever happens, the performances of Ronaldo are set to be a huge talking point during the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

Ronaldo made his second debut for United against Newcastle on September 11, 2021. It was a dream day for the Portugal star as he scored twice in a 4-1 win at Old Trafford.

He made his first Champions League appearance of the season on September 14 against Young Boys and scored a goal. However, he was frustrated to be denied a penalty and was later substituted, with 10-man United ultimately beaten 2-1.

And Ronaldo continued his incredible start to life back at Man Utd by scoring for a third game in a row at West Ham. The veteran equalised in the first half from close range in an eventual 2-1 win.

Ronaldo sat out the EFL Cup defeat against West Ham on September 22 as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to give him some much-needed rest ahead of a busy period ahead.

He returned for the Premier League fixture against Aston Villa at Old Trafford and for the first time since his return was unable to find the net as Solskjaer's side slipped to a shock 1-0 defeat.

However, Ronaldo bounced back in emphatic fashion in the Champions League clash against Villarreal on September 29. The Portuguese legend dispatched the ball home deep into injury time to clinch a 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

CR7 was surprisingly named on the bench for Man Utd's Premier League fixture with Everton. He would eventually come on just before the hour mark, but was unable to inspire the Red Devils to anything more than a 1-1 draw, with Sir Alex Ferguson caught on camera questioning the decision to leave the forward out.

Ronaldo was back in the starting XI for an away match against Leicester in the Premier League, but was unable to find the back of the net as Man Utd lost 4-2 away from home, a result that piled pressure on Solskjaer.

The pressure was eased in the next game, though, as Ronaldo crowned a brilliant comeback with a winner nine minutes from time against Atalanta. United had trailed 2-0 at half time, but Ronaldo headed home to win the game 3-2.

Ronaldo's next match was a humiliating experience as Man Utd were thrashed 5-0 at home by Liverpool in the Premier League. Cristiano had a goal disallowed in the second half.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job in danger, Ronaldo eased the pressure on his boss by scoring a fantastic opener in a 3-0 away win at Tottenham. He also grabbed an assist for Edinson Cavani.

As if he hadn't done enough for his manager, Ronaldo then stepped up with a brace to spare Man Utd's blushes in a 2-2 draw with Atalanta in the Champions League group stages.

Undoubtedly the best! I don't play bettings but I could easily put my stakes on Ronaldo scoring at least a goal in a match, just because he's the real GOAT!
