As we expect the final results of the Anambra governorship election, let’s take some time to reflect on some pre-election events.

Prominent among those are the supposed ‘high profile’ defections of some APGA and PDP elected members culminating in the defection of the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke.

When these defections were happening, those of us who know the Igbo man in general and the Anambra political terrain in particular, knew that these defections were of no consequence but those who play politics differently in their regions didn’t understand it.

But I guess everything is clearer now. That Ndigbo are not a people that follow big name. Even Nnamdi Kanu, any day we see he has derailed we will leave him with speed of light. So nobody can guarantee you the loyalty of the Igbo man. You have to earn it!

So, now that the election is as good as over, we need to know what next for the ill fated politicians who defected to APC?

The House of Assembly members who defected, are they gonna return to APGA and say what?

Chukwuma Umeoji who I learnt is a House of Rep member, does he hope to recontest that same position in APC or he will accept his fate and disappear from Anambra politics?

Stella Oduah that defected from PDP, is she going to hope to retain his senatorial seat in APC? Something that almighty Ngige couldn’t do simply because he was in APC.

And the deputy governor, I suppose he has reached the zenith of his career in the state politics and would be hoping that APC win re-election in the centre in 2023 so he can get some compensation, if at all.

So, Ndi Anambra, what is the most likely fate that would befall the defectors? Are some of them popular enough to retain their seats in APC or this is the end of their political career in Anambra politics?

Soludo is pure Igbo man and knows what is at stake. Rochas Okorocha is a case study, after 2023 he can never smell any elective position in Imo state.
