That is bullshit... It is not a must, Don't let pastors guilt trip into joining bany department.
Let it be out of your own free will and make sure that even if you join , the church activities don't affect your personal and professional life.
The reason why I'm saying this is that the church will most likely not pay you for any services you give because according to them, "you're doing it for God".

So whether you wanna join or not is definitely up to you.

Before you start ranting, what church do you worship in? If you are a Catholic, it is a must you belong to an organization. Yes, it is a must because doing so helps you learn more about the church.

If not, you will become like one of those nincompoops who come online to rant about how Catholics worship Mary.

Bros don't let anyone guilt trip you into doing what you're not ready for. The most important thing for you as a Christian is your relationship with your creator. Joining a church group doesn't guarantee that you will be a better Christian, for example, sexual immorality is very pronounced within the choir dept of most churches, the financial dept is another place with very corrupt individuals, the politics played out in most of these departments would make you wonder if you are still in a church. Finally, it's up to you, if you feel joining a church department will make you a better person, then do, watch your growth, if you're not growing, then there's no point being there.

1st we must understand that walking with God and working for God are 2 different thing, for you to walk with God it means u have a relationship God ( in other words u are a born again). Working for God is an act of worship to God, you can not say u love God and u are not in anyway contributing in service in the house of God. For u to come to that church for the first time and fell in love with the activities of the church it means some persons has put efforts to make sure u fill comfortable as u worship God.
For your service to be completed to God these 3 must be complete. Physical service, spiritual service and financial service, these 3 must be in place

When I asked An Elderly Man this same question.. He has been in the church for Years but refused to join the workforce.

He said it comes with a lot of commitment and people will start begging him for some little assistance here and there.

Jesus wasn't running a church. At best, you could call him an itinerant minister, moving from place to place preaching to the people.

The apostles you mentioned were not layabouts. They were a very key pillar of Jesus' ministry, offering support, planning and arranging and learning of the master.

Read about Jesus feeding the 5000 and you will see the key role played by the disciples in caring for the crowd. Sometimes he would send them ahead to get food and supplies; sometimes they acted as his personal security, forming a ring around him so he won't be crushed by the teeming crowd.

He sent them on missions of evangelism. They helped in counseling and baptizing new converts. Etc. All of these and more they did in service to Christ while he was with them physically. So much more they did in service to him after he ascended to heaven.

Organized Religion was never for me. But if you want to join a department then do so, it's not for everyone.

I rather do the simple things, that is enough for me.

Don't look down on any person, because he or she is not in a department in the church, just do what you want to do, if you are really motivated to do it.

I think you have to ask yourself, why you want to belong to a department, is it to gain other peoples approval or is it something else, like do you want to build your service, your spirituality, do you want to learn and have an impact, is it a way of improving yourself.

Then begin to ask how you can have a positive impact, what can you do, or how would you do it, and are you ready to give your time and energy to it.

I cannot compell you to do anything, but we should rather understand what we are doing.

So if you know what you want and why, the how, and how to start, then at least you know that you are going somewhere, according to your motivations.

In my church you are encouraged to belong to a department to help in the work of God, but it is not by force. No one looks down on you just because you decide to be a bench warmer. And i have never heard that you are looked down on by simply avoiding a department.

Ephesians 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

1 Corinthians 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Go through those scriptures to find the answer.

For Ephesians, we are able ministers called to do work of the ministry, ministry there is talking about partaking in the work...

1corinthians 3:13 isn't talking about judgement, it is talking about the reward of our labour in the house of God...

There is a big difference between Worshipping God and Serving God.

Most times we go-to church to pray and sing... That is worship, you hallow his name.

Serving God entails doing what is required for the furtherance of his name... Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only. He said

Imagine if everyone is a church goer!

What makes you feel that you are being looked upon because you are only a church member and not a worker? This feeling should let you know that there is more to God than just church attendance and giving offerings.
Some people clean the church, some usher, some pray for the church, some evangelize, some teach the word, some lead praises, some do welfare etc. All these are the aspects of church that every church goer gets blessed from.
Every genuine child of God is expected to get involved in church activities to be used by God to bless others (church goers and fellow workers). Jesus our example got involved in his days. So why won't I be an active worker in a church if I am genuinely born again? We have been saved to serve. It shouldn't even be about whether compulsory or not. It should be a matter of necessity.

Our "Work" for GOD are things we engage in to advance the Gospel, the Church,etc

Our "Walk" with GOD is concerned with our Personal relationship with GOD. Our Walk is concerned with the Matter of our Salvation and being Genuiely Saved and living for GOD and Obeying HIS Word.

There are Many people Working but they are not Walking with GOD. They could be Pastor, Bishop, Prayer leader, Woman leader, Choir, etc but yet they have no relationship with JESUS.

work for God work for God pastors and families dey fresh but I dey lean,Sabbath day na Sunday but na Monday to Saturday una de do revival dey cash out steady like say na timetable.

And that is enough reason to look down on people? If it is so then God should be totally far away from people like you!
You should encourage people and not look down on them, joining any department does make you a Christian or a saint. People like you are just Hypocrite, arrogant and pretenders to the core.
