Squid game is a south Korean survival drama series premiered on Netflix. It was created by Hwang Dong Hyuk. The series has nine episodes. It was released worldwide on September 17,2021. It stars characters like Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Wi Ha Joo, Jung Ho Yeon and many others. So, here are five facts about the television series squid game.

1) It is the most watched series on
Netflix
Some weeks after the release of squid game it surpassed ”Bridgerton” another television series which was watched by 82 million households. Squid game had over 142 million households watching in the first four weeks which makes it the number one(1) Netflix series of all time.


2) The show was written in 2008
Hwang Dong Hyuk the director of the series wrote the scripts in 2008 in which he wanted to do as a two
hours movie and call it round six. He submitted it to several Korean production companies and was met
with disappointment. Fortunately, Sarandos stumbled upon it in 2019 and produced it as a Netflix original
series and the rest is history.



3) The phone number in the first episodes of the show is real.

In the series contestants get involved in the game by calling the number on the mysterious business card.
Unfortunately the phone number is actually real. It belongs to a man who said he receives about four thousand calls a day. A south Korean presidential candidate offered to buy it from him. So Netflix have looked into the issue and have decided to make necessary precautions.



4) Social media helped the show popularity

The show was popularized on different social media networks like twitter, Instagram, facebook and others. Through it squid game began to gain people’s attention.


5) Squid game helped each of it’s actor in one way or the other.

All the actors in the series saw increase in their followers on their social media accounts weeks after
the squid game was premiered.



In conclusion there is likely to be a second season though Hwang Dong Hyuk initially did not have plan to
write a sequel to squid game but in an interview with the times Hwang said “ The second season may focus
more on the story of the front man as well as in incorporating more about the police. In late October 2021 he stated he had discussions with Netflix concerning a sequel in which he wants to produce another film first so as to avoid becoming known only for the Squid Game.
