I really never understood the reason behind flogging someone for failing a subject.

It never ever made sense to me
Someone will pay School Fees
Attend your class
Instead of you to correct the student who failed or give him/her Zero mark.
You flog them and still give them Zero mark, on top the school fees the person paid??

Flogging is punishing the child for wasting your efforts. Yours is to teach and theirs is to learn and pass....
Punish them for not being responsible.
By the way na their parents dey pay school fees that's why some of them don't take their studies serious
