A medical doctor, Dr Idem Etuk Samuel, CEO of Mount Zion Clinic Calabar, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police for allegedly raping his 15-year-old female patient.

THE PARADISE gathered that Dr Idem was arrested on Wednesday after a letter was written by the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, BRCI on November 9, 2021, and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan, Cross River State Police Command.

According to the letter which was signed by James Ibor Esq., Principal Counsel, BRCI, the assault on the 15-year-old girl (name withheld) by Dr Idem started on October 22, 2021, when the victim was admitted to the hospital located at No. 36/38 Off Yellow Duke Street, Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State.

"We received a report from our client in the company of her mother (name withheld) at our office on the 3rd day of November 2021. Our client recounted her ordeal at Mount Zion Medical Centre situated at No. 36/38 Off Yellow Duke, Calabar South which began on the 22nd day of October 2021 when she was admitted as a patient in the hospital.

"According to our client, Dr Idem led her into his consulting room and instructed her to totally UnCloth but when she hesitated, he insisted and said that all doctors who examine or check patients with difficulty in breathing require the patient(s) to fully UnCloth for proper examination. He then assisted her to pull down her clothing.

"He, thereafter, placed a stethoscope on her bare chest severally, and after a few minutes dropped it and leaned his weight on her and started groping her breast while moaning. The assault continued through the three days she was on admission in the hospital. We have video, audio and screenshots evidence that can support your investigation.

"Sir, we trust you will use your good office to investigate this case in the interest of public safety and ensure that justice is served", the letter read in part.

Meanwhile, THE PARADISE further gathered that Dr Idem was feigning mentally ill after his arrest.

"He [Dr Idem Etuk Samuel] is currently feigning madness after arrest and his Lawyers insist he sees a psychiatrist. He has been taken to the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar", a reliable source said.

When contacted on the phone on Wednesday, DSP Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State did not take or return her calls at the time of fielding this report.
