And where is the word "Ijaw" in all these?

I tire!
Even an Onitsha man would tell you that "Igbos are money conscious" does that now make Onitsha Ijaw people? grin

Igbere people (Orji uzor Kalu home town in Abia) was actually named "Igbo-ere" meaning "Igbos cannot sell us". This was in reference to Aro and her mercenaries attempt to ransack the town and sell them off as slaves. They successfully repelled Aro assault and named themselves "Igbos cannot sell us". Igbos in this sense referring to Arochukwu.
Does it mean that Igbere people were Ijaws because they called others Igbos? grin

Notice in the Bonny ethnologue, Aros and Nris where not listed as Ibos but as independent clans.
This happened probably because the Aros and Beretchi insisted on being referred by their towns and not subsumed under the general Igbo tag.
Does that now make them Ijaws? grin

Dude is just clutching at straws.
Igbo speaking people/clans called each other Igbo in the past, it doesn't mean they themselves were not speaking a language one would call IGBO today.

Only thing his extract showed was that Bonny people called other Igbos in hinterland Igbos.
Which was the norm those days.
Every Igbo speaking group called The rest of Igbo speaking groups "Igbos". It doesn't mean they consider/considered themselves Ijaw.

But, that Ashaka needs to be researched because there was never a time Isseke had anything to do with Bini.
If the cultures he described can as well be seen in Ashaka then you might have solved the dudes confusing piece of work

Even owerri call other igbo Isoma

That is the word they use frok owerri down to Ikwerre they call non indegenes Isoma...

Ngwá call non indigene Ohuhu

But that doesn't mean that they aren't igbo

The thing tire me oh.
I wonder the kind of IQ most of these Ijaw people have.

Imagine using what someone said about his family to instigate that he is no longer part of the family but yours (an alien he never mentioned of)

No matter the prejudice some people from Bonny at that time have against the larger igbo family, they never for once said that they are IJAW

Alabo7978, GreatBoss and the other pirates, can you people show us one place the people of Bonny were called or self identified as Ijaw prior to 1970 (after the war)

My problem with Ashaka is that he spoke of the Mberenchi marks (Mgburichi marks of the Nri).
These marks are not present in Ashaka area.

The context of what I said was "the implication of what it would mean if it was proven to be Etsako" which it is not.

I hate teaching people English literature because English is not my language.

Ikwerres say Igbos are thieves who want their land and oil, therefore, Ikwerres are not Igbo speakers, they are Ijaw.

That's the logic the Ijaw man is presenting to show that Bonny is Ijaw. grin

Why must I watch what proves nothing. Is the video showcasing Equiano himself?
The content of debate here is from Equaino's account. I was expecting you to connect "Isseke" in ihiala with Benin kingdom. Perhaps, they also pay taxes to Benin kingdom as suggested by one of you.

he said that his village is near benin kingdom not under benin kingdom.... Please have you read the book or are you taking based on hear say remember that Ịn igbo land they call benin Idu and their influence is well known.. Smiths from Awka go to benin to ply their trade... Now you can know that Anambra isn't far from benin but was never under benin influence except some few places under the igbo of delta example the Ukwuani and Ikas

There is a reason why Equiano's work is never used as reference to any serious Historical work.
The dude did not only confuse himself but anybody that will read it.

As a young scientist, I remember being warned to never manipulate but show the results the way they are even if they go against all the previous experiments by renowned scientists. The reason for the warning is so that when later scientists will reassess that your research, it will be better for them to descover that your error (if there was any) was caused by faulty samples, equipment or bad working conditions than to find out that you manipulated because it will ruin your reputation.

Except historians later find out a town that has Bini influence in Igboland that suits the guys narrative, his work is a shame to Behold. It reeks of manipulation to sound good.

Even his picture has been discovered or is disputed to be another man's own.

Olaudah Equiano messed up big time.

This is what happens when an Igbo man try to forcefully attach himself to Bini.
He becomes an object of ridicule, because his account becomes incredulous and full of gaping holes. It creates a rational dilemma.
It never ends well.

He didn't need to start linking Essaka with Bini.
It messed everything up.
He didn't need to attach to Bini to draw attention and sell his story.

Just remove the Bini conundrum he created himself and his story becomes 100% credible.

Essaka is in Nri area of influence.

Ichi marks ✓
Afor for year ✓

But he fell for the Bini virus and ruined a good story.

Not true.
The true costal tribes of Niger Delta were not Ijaws.
They were proto Ibibiod people.
You see them in Ogbia, Abua, Odual, Abureni, Abuloma, Andoni.
They were the people Jaja met when he arrived at Opobo newly and had to assimilate and drove off the rest to acquire the land.
The remnant of them even went as far as Etche, and were assimilated by the Igbos there, they were called the "Ochichi".

There are three language groups Indigenous to southern part of NIGERIA.
ie The Igboid, the Ibibiod and the Edoid.

Ijaw is an alien people that sticks out like a sour thumb when you consider how unrelated they are to the original three of Ibibiod, Edoid and Igboids.

Video? When I read the original work.

Oga, the dude literally said that he was born in the Eboe part of Bini kingdom. In other words, he said that the entire Igboland was under Bini. He didn't mince words there.

Such blunder is not acceptable in any serious discussion.
