...one of the twins is seriously sick, said the Police.

Two women with stolen twins from Cross River State have been intercepted in Ebonyi State by a group of Vigilantes.

THE PARADISE NEWS gathered that the twins, newly born, who were bagged in a sack bag, were to be sold in Lagos State to a woman identified only as "Auntie".

An eyewitness, Dominic told THE PARADISE NEWS last Monday that, one of the women traffickers who gave her name as Glory said they stole the babies from their mother in a village (yet-to-be-identified) in Cross River State and that they were taking them to Lagos State, to be sold.

"The two women were caught in Abomege, Ebonyi State last weekend (November 20) by Vigilantes group with two babies (twins) stolen from Cross River State. They said they were taking them to Lagos to sell to one Auntie.

"They were caught close to the borders with Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State by a joint effort of Ebube Agu and Local Vigilante groups at Omege Station after scaling through four checkpoints.

"One of them (younger) who gave her name as Glory said the mother of the twins is in the village while pointing to the elderly woman as the lead culprit", Dominic said.

Confirming the incident to THE PARADISE NEWS on the telephone, DSP Odah Loveth Obianuju, Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Command said the traffickers have been arrested, adding that one of the babies is sick and the twins transferred to the State Ministry of Social Welfare for shelter.

"It was the relationship between the Ebonyi State Police Command and the citizen of Ebonyi State that paid off for us. Yes, true, the non-state actors, that is, the Vigilantes intercepted the people and alerted the Police and they were arrested.

"As I am talking to you now, the traffickers are in our custody. The children are in our Division because they were put in a sack bag and one of them is seriously sick. He is being treated and after that, we will transfer the children to the Ministry of Social Welfare for shelter while investigation continues with the traffickers", DSP Odah said.

The Police spokesperson added that: "According to the one we arrested, who is the delivery agent, he said he was contracted to take the children to Lagos. They said the children were abducted from Calabar in Cross River State but we are still investigating the matter".

Doubt if the babies were just stolen; there would have been so much uproar from the mother & community. This is more like an organised baby trafficking racket gone wrong.
