Globalization has never being more real than it is now. From the revolution in transportation to telecommunication. We celebrated Airbus. While still in the euphoria of that, we got supersonic planes that moves in the speed of light. While Nigerian leaders are busy cutting ribbons unveiling locomotive trains Japan and the rest have bullet speed trains. There's no need dwelling on the changes we have seen on how information travels. When the World Wide Web started in the 1990's, I am not sure those guys envisaged we will have what like this today. The way we trade has also changed drastically. You don't need to spend long hours traveling on the back of the Camel to go get goods across the Sahara, from the back seat of a car, you can move money and goods across the world.
If the world has become so interconnected, why has this era aslo seen some of the most militant Nationalistic calls? It is this thought that is making question if there's no more than we see or know about the COVID19. Maybe I have read too many Sidney Sheldon or seen too many CIA or FBI conspiracy movies. Could there be some eggheads somewhere in a bid to protect their borders tweaking and tweaking the COVID19 virus?
We have seen how some merchants of war profiting from causing chaos in various parts of the world. However, the world still finds a way to come together and clean the mess created by a few hot heads. With the way the COVID19 spreads and it's debilitating effects on the human body, every leader will put the interest of it's citizens first before other considerations.
With this consideration in mind, could there be someone or a group of people behind the various variants of this COVID19? I bet alot of people have forgotten that it was once called the "Wuhan Virus" named after the Chinese City of Wuhan where it was once discovered. We have the Delta variant, now it's Omicron which sounds more like the name of a computer or a Company into ICT.
Whatever the real story about the COVID19, Africa seems to be at the receiving end of it. No African country has yet to come up with a vaccine, even if they try to, it will be deemed as non effective. The world is quick to slam travel bans on African countries. When are we going to wake up as a Continent and take the lead in global affairs?
Nigeria as a country is still grappling with constructing good roads, we have leaders cutting ribbons to unveil public toilets and tagging it as development projects. We have leaders who call carpenters to put wood together and call it bridges. We have a long way to go as a Continent and as a Country. While we continue to hold our leaders accountable, we need to rise up to the challenges we face as a Continent and a country. Why do we continue to handover the reins of leadership to simpletons and circus performers, while do we continue to allow ourselves to be divided along the lines of religion and unhealthy tribal and ethnic lines?
Until we realize that our voices can be the trickling water that builds up to become an ocean we will not rise to become a great nation that we all desire.
