The Nigerian Police force is one of the largest in Africa and probably in the world too with over 30,000 plus personnels across the country. It is not news that police officer are perceived with a stereotypical knowledge of how they behave hence they are branded as corrupt, wicked, heartless and vindictive individual who are illiterates or half educated" I can't say I completely agree or disagree with such beliefs but the truth is we must accept that they are first Nigerians and ordinary people who now have powers and manifested their true nature just like any other human would. Be it good or bad it is just who they really are, among the many challenges besetting the Nigerian Police one that is imperative is poor welfare an average police officer is poorly paid, poorly equipped and is expected to deliver 100% his family is not cared for when he dies. The rising cost of living these days makes life hard for them, food price is on the increase and yet the government delays their poor salary they give them, it will shock you to know that the government makes deductions from their salaries. Since the time the government publicly announced that they have increased the police salaries; not a dime has been added to the old rate..... To be continued

Op, those "kind" words you used are true definition of a typical Nigeria Police Officer no matter the rank. It is sad that even the process of enrollment is bedevilled with corruption which then forms a foundation and bedrock on the new intake.

2. On the issue of pay, I disagree with you. In Nigeria, almost all the workers share from the same pot - poor renumeration. That of the police will not be an exception or guarantee to take bribe, or engaged in sharp practice to make up.

3. The total number of Officers in the formation is about 300,000 or as they want us to believe.

4. The issue of corruption in the force is inherent. From the top, the story is the same. They deduct from the staff salaries with fictitious codes such as housing, vehicle, and other welfare programs but none is being implemented though money had been deducted.

5. This is Nigeria.
