Attachment is simply an affection or fondness for someone.

Getting attached to someone is as a result of how that person makes you feel.

In other words, the kind of feelings you get when you're with that person.

Some people get attached to people that makes them feel bad (weird but very true), while others get attached to people that makes them feel extremely good.

You can imagine building a relationship with someone for say, 2 to 4yrs relationship with someone, the level of attachment would be on the high side.

And one thing with getting attached to someone is the more it increases, the more you find it difficult to get over the person, the more you become prone to abuse.

So in eventual case the relationship becomes abusive, the abused finds it difficult to break free from the relationship.

They are human beings with feelings and emotions, and not everyone has the strength to bear the pain of things and just get over it.

So when they look at the attachment that they have developed over the years, they find it difficult to just let go.

One thing attachment does to you is that it makes you believe you can't live without that person...

...especially if the attachment is a very strong one, so the abused end up staying in the relationship, while living in the illusion of not being able to live without the abusive partner.
