Thank God say the guy die, if he no die he for hear wien. Frank Mba go just talk say, "we are still watching over the young man condition in the hospital . Meanwhile, we are investigating to know the immediate and distance cause. We are definitely going to charge him for attempted suicide and for an act that could cause breach of the national peace. Finally, the family will have to be responsible for the hospital bill.

Anybody who set himself on fire in Nigeria just wasted his own life.

2 things might happen.

1: We will say the man is crazy and we will go about our business (if he is from the north does from the south will say good for him, if he is from the south those from the north will say good for him, if he is a muslim the other religions will say crazy guy, if he is a xtian others will say aha crazy guys)
2: Small groups of people will make noise and if they persist police or soldiers will come and impose curfew (Men i love this country)

It will change nothing. Fellow Nigerians will cause him in death. "he thought this was Tunisia. he is insane for not waiting for God's time".

Come to think of it; the poster might just trigger a revolution if he sets the example. We on NL will carry on with the cause. Are you gonna start?

Re: If A Nigerian Sets Himself On Fire In Front Of The National Assembly: by freepeople: 11:39am On Jun 14, 2011
I grieve with the family of the young man who lost his life. Nigeria is an inhomogenous society. It will be difficult to replicate the Tunisians or Egyptians style of revolution here. His action still bears some significance. It will serve as a warning shot to the politicians that masses are getting desperate. If they fails to get their acts together. The country may descend into anarchy.
Re: If A Nigerian Sets Himself On Fire In Front Of The National Assembly: by bluerange(f): 12:35pm On Jun 14, 2011
Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who also witnessed the event, said it was unfortunate; "It is unfortunated that something like this happened, especially right here at the National Assembly. We are left wondering why a young man with so much promise could do a thing like that to himself. It is really unfortunate". When asked if efforts were made to stop the young man from burning to death, he said that the members tried their best in the circumstances; "We called the Federal fire service. I personally called their closest station and asked them to come immediately. It was rather unfortunate that they came twenty minutes later, by which time, the young man was dead". When asked if there wasn't any immediate means of putting out the fire, he said "well there was a fire extinguisher but none of us knew how to make use of it. My special assistant on fires and disaster management was not present so there was nothing we could do".

This Paragraph raises the issue of incompetence.

1. "We called the Federal fire service. I personally called their closest station and asked them to come immediately. It was rather unfortunate that they came twenty minutes later, by which time, the young man was dead".
-Why was there a 20mins delay? Probably no water or the needed personnel don waka go do their personal runs !

2. When asked if there wasn't any immediate means of putting out the fire, he said "well there was a fire extinguisher but none of us knew how to make use of it. My special assistant on fires and disaster management was not present so there was nothing we could do"

-Is this not a national embarrassment say no one whey dey for national assembly fit use common extinguisher but make una no surprise say for their expenditure accounts of the past years una go see the millions whey dey spend on safety drilling exercises!

3. My special assistant on fires and disaster management was not present so there was nothing we could do".
- Una no see how our money dey go! Special assistant on fire and disaster! Work dey ooooooooooooo, no surprise dem get Special assistant on rat killing! angry So person become senator, e no go fit do anything for imself again? If sey na im and im wife dey for bedroom and one wire con dey spark, na who e go call? undecided

With the ''siddon-look'' attitude of Nigerians, the light will always be at the end of the tunnel.just isolate your family from poverty and worry less.

poster, it will not change a thing. see how people started doing the usual tribalism nonsense when the character was purposefully given a name that was yoruba, hausa, and igbo. unfortunately, people have not been pushed enough to the edge to want to fight back.

The deputy senate president should learn how to use a fire extinguisher. We are so ill prepared for disaster management in Nigeria. Not many people know how to use a fire extinguisher and yet, most of us have cars and live in houses. *SMH.

It will make headlines and generate so much noise for a coupla days. Followed by compensation of say 5million to th family (which they'd never get) and a lot of talk about how are gonna be empowered so as not to rely solely on government.

Worse comes to worse, a new ministry will be created (say ministry against self immolation) to compensate them politicians who made the most noise.

Well i dont see any Nigerian doing that when his name is not Abdulmutallab.

It's only that Nigerians are a special set of people.
What of the uncountable numbers of frustrating harassment by security operatives. It's only in Nigeria that I'm sure suicide bombing will be impossible till kingdom come.
Those who believe in religious killings don't believe the practice to that level like d Al'quaedas of this world.
Abeg Naija people too like 2 jolificat life, abi u wan die 4 another man sake?

Self-Immolation is not a Nigeria thing. You still wondering why we keep winning the award for ''happiest'' nation in the world despite the high poverty rate ? Because Nigerians can adapt to any situation.e go better na our major slang.
