I also had my own fair share of the beating, and i think, that was when parents really disciplined kids, not what we have now, petting children up and down

Those day when you commit crime/break stuffs(Plates, Cups, aquarium, louvers) before dad/mum return from work.

There's always this special people we return to for protection, they'll come beg for us.

But some parents can still be mean, in the midnight, you will just hear 'tap tap tap' on your body.

'Se o ti ji? o ro pe mo ti gba gbe ni?..O ya dide koo dobale si ori table yen.'

One day the lantern was on but I felt it was not bright enough so I removed the hot globe and put it immediately inside water to wash. That day I learnt the laws of physics.

The funny thing is I broke plates and buckets but never this lantern glass. I loved cleaning and fixing it. It was fragile and I handled it as such.

I lost count oooh, it seems me and brother used to break that glass every week till my dad went to buy a pack so that he can be replacing the one that got broken by mistake. But if I break one I will quickly rush and replace it without letting my dad Know not knowing that my brother was doing the same thing too.
Till I broke the last one in the presence of my dad, without further ado he said I should go and bring the glass carton. Lo and behold I opened it but nothing was there but I carried it to him as if the carton were very much heavy until he washed the lantern himself check the kerosene and refilled it then to replace the glass he opened then sad boom....what a judgement day.
He landed a hot slap and all I can see was rainbow colour for like 1 minutes....i kept shouting, oju mi foh, ye ye ye(my is blind, ye ye ye).
After then I still continue in the ministry till he changed it to gas florescent lights
Chaii! Childhood memories eh!

If nah this lantern glass,I didn't break it much.I pick 2nd position in breaking this in our family ranking. My sister pick first position in this.
But when it comes to breakable plates breaking,I pick first position in the family.
I break it like may be one per week.
Till Mama have to remove me from rotatory plate washing timetable to ground sweeping n water fetching only in the morning before going to school.
We have the lantern like 3 in our house then. Two small ones and one big one.One in Papa room,we use one in our own room, then the big one is kept in the parlour.
The day I finally break the glass of that big one, omo! Papa couldn't beat me again cos he was tire of beating me everytime for the same offence. So my punishment was that we sleep in our own room without light until whenever he will buy a replacement. So he seized the one in our room, but nah parlour own I been break..oo,but he seized the one in our room as punishment.
It wasn't funny at all with my sister cos she fear darkness pass anything. She couldn't sleep well for that number of days the punishment lasted. She used to quarel with me every morning for making my own punishment to reach others.
Even now wer she don marry,me and am still dey laugh whenever we remember those days.
grin grin grin

My mum then, once you break it, she will not allow you to touch the lantern again until my dad will send me message with the lantern, if she send you message you must go in darkness
