EVERY morning and evening, on workdays, hundreds of residents would converge at any of the bus stops and junctions in different parts of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), desperately waiting for vehicles to convey them on their way to, or from, work.READ MORE HERE: https://www.icirnigeria.org/investigation-how-poor-planning-led-to-failure-of-abuja-urban-mass-transport-scheme/ 4 Likes

Abuja is not fit to be called a Capital when you compare it with Cities like, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Rabat in Morocco, Gaborone in Botswana, Praia in Cape Verde, even Kigali in Rwanda. Abuja is just on merry go round. Go to the city t=during rain fall and see flooded street as a result of poor drainage and the sink holes are blocked. No provision for public transport. The masses are on the mercies of private motorists and these have led to may peoples untimely deaths due to one chance operator 12 Likes 2 Shares |

El-Rufai remains the best thing that has happened to FCT, since his administration there has been no minister that has performed half as well as El-Rufai did. I believe El-Rufai had great plans for those bus services, as they provided cheaper and consistent price rate, secondly El-Rufai had plans to create a lane for the buses just like the brt in a Lagos, infact it was already being implemented before his tenure ended. 10 Likes |

The FCT is truly not well planned. Go through Gwagwalada, there is only one main road through it. Every other road seem to lead to a dead end. If the express road got blocked by the only bridge spanning the river, there is no exit waiting for you. Its surprising that the Gwagwalada plan is less than 25 years old. 3 Likes |

Nothing new. Afterall, it happened in Lagos. What this country needs is restructuring. If it takes only Lagos, Rivers, Anambra and Kaduna states to float, watch other states as they learn to swim by force to remain alive. Feeding bottle and nepotistic federal system will turn this country to Afghanistan. 1 Like |

More like heavy corruption in that particular agency ..how do you have a public transport system that work more like a regular 9 to 5 salary job? And only on week days?you see the useless bus on Sunday morning being hired by churches to ferry worshippers to and fro, neglecting the main purpose for which it was set up! I 1 Like |

Poor planning isn't the problem here. Poor execution and maintenance is. Every city should grow with its population. But apparently this does not work in Nigeria. When the London underground was first built, it was nothing compared to what it is today. But they have kept on improving and upgrading the infrastructure to cope with the population growth of the city. Abuja on the other hand expects that its original design of over 30 years ago should be able to keep up 30years after with all the growth it has experienced 5 Likes |
