The Google Android OS 12- A case for the New Pixel 6

Android 12 Operating System is the newest from the stable of Google to support all Android-powered devices. For a complete analysis of the latest OS, I will use the Pixel 6 smartphone as a case study. The reason for Pixel 6 smartphone is obvious- it is a Google in-house product. However, kindly note that the same features apply to all other Android-powered devices running the new OS 12.

The Pixel 6 series come with Android 12 and the new Material You UI, totally revamped. Although the UI comes with a learning curve; however, the change is significant. Google promises three major OS upgrades and five years of security patches at the very least. Google's Feature Drop initiative will provide additional functionality to Pixel customers throughout the year.

Google has redesigned Android- the Android 12 is the most significant visual change seen on the operating system.

Much of the primary interfaces have been completely updated from the dop-down to notifications and quick check to lock screen and widgets; it’s all-new. There are tons of animations for things like unlocking the phone and plugging it in to charge, all of which are well suited for the 90Hz refresh rate on the Pixel 6.

Let’s look at a few of the features that stand out on Android OS 12.

The Design:

Android 12 is updated to be roomier and more comfortable, it’s the most expressive, dynamic, and personal OS ever from Google.

We cannot discuss the Android 12 OS without mentioning the Material You interface. The Material You interface enables Google Workspace apps on Android, making room for a new design system. Material You apps now have a more modern, fresh design and feel and more customizing choices.

Android 12 reshapes the entire user interface, from shapes, light, and motion, to customizable system colors that can adapt to match your preference.

Lock Screen Interface:

The new lock screen clock is likely to be the first thing you see when you turn on an Android 12 phone for the first time. A vast digital clock takes pride of place in the center of the screen while your phone is free of alerts.

As you slide to unlock the device, you'll see that the Passcode keypad has a new design. The pastel-colored buttons are circular, significant, and straightforward. Material You is in charge of these hues.

Take Scrolling Screenshot:

On Android 12 OS, Google has finally brought in scrolling screenshots. These screenshots record what is visible on the screen and the information concealed beneath it; such as the remainder of a significant web page or document. You'll find that they're beneficial in a wide range of scenarios.

Taking a scrolling screenshot with your phone running Android 12 is pretty straightforward.

To take a screenshot that includes hidden pages or documents:

Hold down the Power and the Volume Down buttons simultaneously.

Once you have taken the screenshot, you’ll see “Capture More” buttons next to the thumbnail.

Kindly tap the thumbnail to extend the screenshot capturing the hidden part of your document.

Picture-in-Picture Mode (PiP):

Android 12 has improved the picture-in-picture mode, making a big difference in the overall experience.

PiP is an Android feature that allows you to have a little floating video playing on your screen even if you aren't using a video app.

The new controls allow you to increase the size of the window without becoming full screen. To do that, all you need to do is use two fingers to toggle the size of the playing video and increase your preference.

With the enhancement, you can also move the playing video with one hand to any corner of the screen you wish. Better still, you can hide the video, so it does not display on the screen. That makes it possible to avoid any background play affecting what you are doing on your smartphone.

To close a video playing window, click and drag the animation down to the bottom with an “x” exit.

The Quick Tap Gesture:

The Quick Tap Gestures allow you access to a new gesture in practically any situation, which is beneficial for getting things done quickly. This one adds a gesture that will enable you to access apps or shortcuts by double-tapping on the back of your phone. For instance, when enabled, you can take a screenshot by double-tapping the back of your phone.

You may also set the gesture to start the camera, launch into selfie mode, take a photo, or launch into video mode. So, in addition to merely introducing a new gesture, you can customize the feature in several ways. Many apps allow you to do more than launching the UI.

Gaming Mode:

The dedicated Game mode is another fantastic feature on Android 12.

Activating the Game Mode unlocks a series of activities on your new Pixel 6 device. Such as displaying Frames per Second (FPS) rate, screen recording, live game screen, etc.

To activate the Game Mode, go to “Settings.”

Locate “Notifications.”

Select “No Not Disturb.”

Click “Schedules.”

Tap the cog icon beside “Gaming.”

You can now access the Gaming Dashboard. From the dashboard, you can access all other services. You can also broadcast your gameplay on YouTube live. There is the option to enable “Do Not Disturb for Games” while at it.
