A school is a safe place for learning. However, the traditional schooling system has become a citadel for nefarious activities such as bullying and violence among peers.

In a study conducted by Egbochuku E.O, in his book titled 'Bullying In Nigerian Schools: prevalence study and implication of counselling' stated that:
4 in every 5 participants (78%) reported being bullied and 85% of the children admitted to bullying others at least once. The study further indicated that more than half of the students (62%) were bullied and 30% bullied others.

Bullying causes lifetime damage, yet it has become an acceptable culture in traditional schools.

To be enrolled in a traditional school in Nigeria is risky, as schoolchildren have become targets for kidnappers. In 2014, there was the mass abduction of 276 female students in Chibok. This marked the inception of the mass abduction of school children in Nigeria.

However, children that are homeschooled gain knowledge in a secure and safe environment compared to their counterparts.
