This is based on passion but getting both is not so bad if you are just starting out and as time goes on you will be able to figure out which one you are most passionate for. For instance, I personally prefer cinematography to photography.

I had this same dilemma a few months back.

personally, I chose the video route due to artistic reasons.
(videography is a more efficient form of storytelling than photography).

as it turns out, these two disciplines are interrelated to an extent.
to be a videographer, you need principles of photography.
(videos are basically a sequence of pictures).

so you need the knowledge of aperture, ISO, white balance and shutter speed. with this, you should be able to confidently take a picture on manual mode across any camera.


yes, videography is an expensive venture, but to be honest, you might have all the best and sophisticated gear in the world and still make crappy ass videos.

you just have to learn the basics and I assure you, there's a plethora of resources for that on YouTube.
check out channels like;

Cinematography is just a moving photo.
Video is made by taking numerous at a given time Than playing it together.

In cinematography u hear a camera shoots
24 frames per sec, 25 frames for sec, 60 frames per second.
It means in every sec d camera takes 24 pictures.
I can even lecture u on cinematography because I went to a film sec to study it.
Knowing ur onion on cinematography is not always d game. The game is being in the biz and getting jobs, because it has to do with connection

I used to always look for a photographer for different events, but then I decided to learn how to photograph myself. I took the photography home projects course. You can learn composition in photography here. If you are interested in this topic, then this is a great opportunity to learn how to do something more by photographing. Good luck!
