A renowned Kano business mogul, Aminu Dantata, has said that democracy has failed in Nigeria, saying that the country is going backward in every level of development.

Mr Dantata spoke on Wednesday at his residence when the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, led by Prof. Ango Abdullahi paid him a condolence visit over the death of Bashir Othman Tofa.

According to Mr Dantata, Nigeria is passing through trying times occasioned by bad governance. grin

The business mogul advised that the only way forward to effective governance is a parliamentary system.

According to him, Nigeria is passing a critical stage of democratic transition where the presidential system of government needs to be discarded in favor of the parliamentary one.

He said: “Presidential system is too cumbersome, too expensive to be sustained”, pointing out that it was the expensive nature of the system that gave way to a myriad of problems bedeviling the country.

He noted that there is a compelling need for an urgent rethink for the country to answer its name in all spares of human interest, stressing that the nation is currently losing the focus and stem as a result of the absence of focused and credible leadership.

Mr Dantata, therefore, called on policymakers in the country to effect a paradigm shiff.

He also called on elders in the country, irrespective of region and religion, to team up and salvage the country from its current problems. cool

Dantata made referenced to the failure of presidential system and opined that parliamentary system will be better.
