Good afternoon nairalanders. As I'm typing this, my mum is not herself and she's been crying since morning because she caught my younger one smoking in his room..

He locked himself in the room for a very long time and my mum decided to go check on him. After a while, he sprayed his room and opened the door.

The room was filled with this hard drug smell, she called me and we decided to check the room even though he denied ever smoking.. We saw a light brown paper that he probably tears from, a nylon containing something like sand and a lighter behind the toilet seat. Despite all this, he still denied it claiming the smell is probably from the next compound.
My brother just clocked 16 and he's in SS2..

How can I advise and help him stop because I believe he was actually smoking even though he denied it?

My brother it is popular saying that bad friends or relationship destroyed good charactes which is true . The opposite of that can work also and that good friendship or gangs destroyed bad characters.

There are two stages in in life the stages where you learned what people are doing and what they tells you to do. This stage parents should always exermine the characters of their children and make sure the wall with good people at this stage it is good that the parent allow their children to spend most of their time in the house of God where they will mingled with good children and have the words of God in tjem

The second stage is the stage when children is no longer a children but adult. At this stage they know what is right and what is good for them . At that stage they choose the kind of life they want to live not because someone told them to do it but because they derive joy in it and think it is normal way of life. That is the stage many parents allowed their children to live alone . At that stage children is difficult to change or control.

Your brother can still be control because he is still in the first stage. Look for someone who ihas the word of God in him and really fear God someone that had reached the second stage that in the cause of pulling your brother out of his bad characters , your brother won't drag ihim to his own character. If this person can take your brother as close friend he will be able to deliver him from Satan grip

You too is in position to help your brother as close friend in very gentle manner by talking with him share some secret with him and give him confidence that what he will tell you will be saved ibut offer to him good advice asking him why he chose that way of life and making him to see the danger of following up that life style by giving him some case study of people that had following such Life style and what happened to them. We come across those case study online ,in daily news in our soroundings etc.

The truth of it is that you can't give what you don't have . To do that you must actually have the great of God and his words in you

Smoking is not part of growing up! A teenage getting himself or herself entangled in social voices is not part of growing up. Such behaviour reflect lack of proper parental guidance or negative influence from peers. Hmmmmm... Mumsy has refused to tell popsy because he's very strict.. He could possibly lock him up sef.. My dad is too strict and my mum is scared of what my dad would likely do to him.. He's a retired military man. I don't want to do the reporting myself because the last time I reported one of them in the house, there was trouble in the house for several weeks as mum couldn't bear dad's disciplinary actions..

Your bro is a cultist. If he doesn't smoke at home, he will do it elsewhere. Change his school, take him to a counselor, try and find out who his friends are, separate them if they are bad guys and keep monitoring him.
