We travelled on the 21st of December last year. We just came back yesterday.

The bill was brought this month.

It is a private property (my father's house)

Oga nawa for you oh...

And you said you were billed for Electricity you didn't use.

Take my advice.

Next time, write to them informing them of your plans to travel so they'll disconnect and reconnect you when you return.

Bill would be prorated for the number of days you used power.

Oga go and pay your bill, that bill is for the days you leading up to when you travelled, and it's for December not January,

at the top of the you will see something like this

that's not how we're billed. The bill is usually sent between 10th and 15th of each month and that's how we calculate it.

Back to your question: why should I also pay for electricity I didn't use from 21st
of December to 9th of January?

That's the point I'm trying to make. We should only pay for the light we use and not for the one we didn't use.

How much did you pay??

My bill is already topping 10k.. for inside Ikorodu village

Depending on usage, my peace is that I can control my usage.

I use about 5k per month, 2 freezers, 3BR, 2 fans, aside from other home appliances.

i have a hot plate but rarely use it, except gas finishes suddenly.

It's called estimated bill, so why are you surprised?

Let me get you straight. Let's assume it was December bill.

I used light from 1-21 and travelled.

In all fairness, I'm only supposed to pay for the light I used and not for what I didn't use from 22nd-31st.

So even if we were not around from 1st to 31st of any month due to urgent travel, they will still send the bill regardless, even though we didn't use the light.

In my father's other house, he has prepaid meter and only pays based on what he consumes.

He's with us here in Lagos and is not worried about estimated bill.

Until u gullible Nigerians resist all this nonsense of cheating and paying for what u don't consume, disconnect yourself from NEPA, make sacrifice and use generator, once in a while in your house, it's not easy though but if everyone does this I can bet u NEPA will sit up and stop this unnecessary exploitation, In my area I refused to connect and pay estimated bill for one and half years now, until they bring my pre paid meter, they even told me to pay 130k for meter of 87k, I refused, that's the sacrifice I had been making until I get my pre paid meter

If you are not around from first to 31st, they will still send you bill, and that's where you will know if the cheat you,

cos the bill the will send is for December, and it's for energy used in November, check that pix I upload well,..

BTW, can you calculate what you used for 21days, before traveling

Hmmm!!! Some people using prepaid metre spend 50k and above on monthly basis. Before, we receive an estimated bill around 30/32k per month but during lockdown, prepaid metre was shared and in 7 days, 15k was used, now we spend approximately 72k per month on prepaid metre.

In this Buhari regime where things are difficult, it's disturbing that we still have to pay for electricity we didn't use.

It is not enough that the bill itself is crazy as it does not even reflect in improved electricity supply, we now had to pay for it when we didn't use it.

Very painful.

Does anyone know when the next metering phase will commence? Because this is getting out of hand.

That's why it's called Estimated Billing.

They must have estimated that even though no one was in your house during the time you traveled for christmas, the spirits you left behind must have been using the electricity in one way or the other. shocked
