Group Petitions Gov Udom Over First Lady's Alleged Sponsorship Of Cultism by Skytruthnews: 3:22pm On Jan 12, 2022
A sociopolitical organization in one of the political zones of Akwa Ibom State, the Abak-five Concerned Elders' Forum has written to the Executive Governor of the state, Deacon Udom Emmanuel over the alleged sponsorship of cult activities by the first lady of the state, Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel and her younger brother, Prince Sampson Idiong who is the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ministerial and Direct labour Committee. According to the letter which copied the Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Moses Ekpo, State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon Aniekan Akpan, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon Aniekan Bassey and many others, said the continuously sponsoring known cultists in the Local Government areas of the zone spelt doom for the people and the future of the state. While the Governor comes from Onna Local Government area of the state, the first lady is from Oruk Anam Local Government area which is part of the former Abak division of the state.

The letter partly read, "the very essence of this letter to His Excellency is to inform the Governor that the communities and Local Government areas of Abak-five are sitting on a ticking time bomb, and to appeal to the kind heart of the Governor to intervene, save our souls and guarantee the safety of the present generation and posterity. Your Excellency, Abak-five Local Government area is becoming a breeding ground for cultists, and because the progenitors of this ugly development are VERY close to you, many may feel these people have the your support. When we remember the lives of the friends, families and young people who died during the cult clashes of Ukanafun, Oruk Anam and Etim Ekpo, we are compelled by conscience to beg for help. We don't want a repeat.

"That you proscribed cultism in Akwa Ibom, while your in-law and Special Assistant, Sampson Idiong is recruiting and mobilizing cultists, is questionable, disheartening and is not representing the image we have of you. After grooming cultists for 2023, what happens thereafter? Why is Sampson Idiong now the biggest inspiration for young people being initiated into cultism especially Klans confraternity in the Local Government areas of Abak-five?

"In Abak, the Chairman of council, a known Klansman is battling the incumbent House of Assembly member, Hon Udeme Otong, simply because Udeme Otong is not a cultist. The fighting occasioned by fraternal disagreements has gone farther to the point that the last 'Ndabo' day in the Abak became a clash between the Chairman's Klansmen and the Norsemen which led to over five casualties. The decision of Chairman to replace members of the Revenue committee in Abak with only Klansmen had led to clashes last year in Abak, yet to be settled. The situations in Ukanafun, Ika and Etim Ekpo is not different. You need to be a cultist and Klansman precisely to be a voice. Simply because Sampson is one, and has the support of the sister the first lady.

"In Oruk Anam, there are numerous questions that beg for answers. Why is a known Klansman a council Chairman supported by Sampson Idiong and the first lady? Why is a known cultist leader of the legislative council? Why did Sampson support a known cultist to replace the impeached vice chairman? Why is a notorious cultist like Prince Ikim who was once arrested, the right hand man of the wife of the Governor? Today the entire composition of the Revenue committee of Oruk Anam is made up of Klansmen beginning from the Chairman. Is this a way of Maintaining Peace? Your Excellency, some of the boys who Sampson Idiong with the aid of Prince Ikim acquired guns during the election build ups, were they not the ones who revolted and led to the one year cult clashes in Inen clan that claimed scores of lives? Why were the boys who received motorcycle gifts from Sampson Idiong the acclaimed 'repentant' cultists? Why are most of those who received car gifts from Sampson Idiong and the first lady mostly cultists?

"Is it that the Governor is not interested in spiritual wellbeing of Abak-five? Is it that the wife of the Governor leads women in worship in Uyo, but grooms cultists in Abak-five? This is the same first lady who claims to be a born again Christian who leads worship at every government functions. But dines, wines and supports known cultists politically and financially. Why would the first lady betray the second term aspiration of his Elder Brother to gratify Sampson Idiong's choice of a notorious Cultist as Local Government Chairman?

"It is time the Governor makes his stance known. The wife of the Governor should let us know if she supports fraternal activities in Oruk Anam Local Government area and Abak five, as claimed by Sampson Idiong and the other cultists in Government.

"We are concerned because this is exactly how the clashes that sacked Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo communities for over two years started. It is ridiculous that a council chairman like that of Oruk Anam will gather youths in the council and share money and bags of rice based on fraternal families during the Christmas and new year festivities. It is shameful that Sampson Idiong and the other cultists chairmen will be making cult groups signs during handshakes in public functions in front of young people who desperately want to be integrated into governance. Why has the political system in Abak-five turned into a mafia-like contest? How safe is the communities of Abak-five? Will cultism be the legacy of Her Excellency the first lady to the people of Abak-five?"

It could be recalled that under the present administration which started in 2015, deadly cult clashes had erupted in Etim Ekpo, Ukanafun and Oruk Anam, claiming scores of lives and properties and rendering thousands of residents homeless. As a the time of writing this report, every attempt to reach the first lady or her younger brother had failed due to their refusal to respond to calls and messages.
