Banking In Nigeria - What Does The Future Hold? by EkelediliBuhari: 2:18pm On Jan 14, 2022
It was quite tough choosing a section to post this but here goes.

The popular word on the street is "my Banker friend just relocation to UK/Canada etc”. This has been a growing trend in the past few years. In the year 2021 alone, over 15 staff of a top tier bank in Rivers State migrated abroad.

Now while this figure might seem small, do the math on other banks and other states.

Now let us do the math;
If one bank loses 15 staff a year, multiply an average of 7 staff exits by 20 banks in one state.
Now multiply 140 by 36 states
That gives us an estimated 5,040 experienced bankers in total

How does this affect you and the price of Garri in the market??

Banks are understaffed and new staff come in as inexperienced. The few experienced ones are poached by bigger banks leaving the smaller banks vulnerable. Imagine how this affects banking transactions. The spike in bank frauds and Business scams. How safe will your money be

Did you know that banks no longer pay off their staff? (Contract and Full)... if a staff leaves today, sometimes he leaves with his last salary other times he has to refund the bank the last salary.

Generally this is just for information purposes and hopefully the Banks will sit up and better manage their staff welfare. It should not just be about churning out Billions in profit, Business continuity and growth should always go pari paso

You seem not to understand the gravity of the situation

Most banks are short staffed currently

Critical positions (core banking applications)”, IT support, technology desk etc) are vacant due to unavailability of qualified personnel to fill the vacancy… units that require 10mam team have barely 4 or 5… ask around don’t just assume
